Good luck with the tow!

PS having seen Adger's recent posts and just started playing around with it myself, I'd strongly recommend you get The OneAlex mod. This will unzip to give you a second install of SH3 which includes the GWX3 mod, the German U-Boat Compilation and more besides including the H.Sie realism mod and SH3 Commander (download link is in the video description):

The GUC boats are a massive improvement:

Recommended is using Multi SH3 to create a separate folder in 'My Documents' to store its career files, separately from any other SH3 install - available under TOOLS, on the DEF SH3 Archive aka S3A:

If you can download and then unzip a file, you can run this. That's all that's needed. It's just over 3 gig and when unzipped, takes up about 8.5 Gb of space. As with any mega mod, system spec is a bit higher but mine is quite dated and it runs just fine. Won't hurt to try!

Installing the included SH3 Commander utility is easy but entirely optional.

As is using Mullti SH3 - all it does is tell one of your installs to put its career and other savegame files in a separate folder. AFAIK the only harm NOT doing that will cause, is that if you load a career file from one install into a different one, then it likely won't play, so you have to remember which careers belong to which installs.

Existing careers from a different install won't work with this, you would have to start fresh ones, but well worth it.

Just download the latest version of GWX OneAlex Edition from the link on that Youtube video, and open it with 7Zip or similar. Then use 7Zip to extract it (it's a folder called SH3) to somewhere outside C:\Program Files (x86) and not to the same folder as your existing install - it is a completely separate install that will leave your existing one alone, not something you install or enable over the top of it - don't do that!

SH3 is great out of the box but a mega mod will greatly improve look and gameplay, and this new one looks like one of the very best, and is very easy to get up and running.

Strange, as I don't recall seeing this problem on the Subsim forum thread for this mod.

Here's a guess at what's wrong.

OneAlex as you've seen installs the game in a folder called SH3. It also needs a different folder, where it will store career files. Inside your 'My Documents' folder.

When you install Silent Hunter 3 normally, the installer creates this folder for you. For example, for me this extra folder is C:/Users/[My user name]/My Documents/Silent Hunter 3.

My guess is that the OneAlex mod is expecting to store its career files in a subfolder with the same name as the folder it's installed in, namely My Documents/SH3. Which doesn't exist. Because when you first installed Silent Hunter 3, it created a subfolder in My Documents with that name, not SH3.

To check if this is the problem, I'd suggest simply using Windows Explorer to create subfolder called SH3, inside your My Documents folder. Then trying to run the mod again. Or use Multi SH3 to create this folder.

Only other thing I can think of is making sure the mod's SH3.exe is set to 'Run this program as an administrator', by ticking that box in Properties/Compatibility for SH3.exe.

Probably also important that you didn't unzip into Program Files (x86).

33 lima: I followed your advice and shes up and running. Thanks It does seem to be wonderful addition to the game almost had to re learn the controls. It does seem to be a bit sticky on my machine when running time expansion at full speed on the Map board. I will go on a War Patrol tonight for a full test. Thanks again and to whoever made the Mod.

Glad you're sorted! Playing GWX+GUC I too get sort of hesitations, if at high time compression. Some recommend not going above 128 or 256 but it's hard to resist if you've been sent very far afield!

BTW in the Ship Camera view (key <) does the mousewheel zoom work for you in this mod? It should zoom out and in, in steps, without getting the somewhat distorted perspective you get (unless in a side-on view) by just moving the camera viewpoint closer with the arrow keys. For some reason mousewheel zoom in the Ship Camera doesn't seem to work in this mod.
