Crypto is one of the most wasteful, idiotic ideas mankind has concepted in millennia, and has been a plague on graphics card prices, energy, and the environment. Now, for once, someone highly visible to the crypto punk space has spoken out against it.

Will this be the beginning of the end?

I doubt this. But it is amusing, nonetheless. What does Elon have up his sleeve?

Mainstream investors and some corporate buyers including Tesla, Square, Metromile and Nexon have flocked to bitcoin, viewing the digital currency as a potential inflation hedge while central banks print money to relieve coronavirus-distressed economies.

I don't understand crypto. 3 years ago I had a friend who lost his job, girlfriend left him, he had $2000 left, and he ask me if he should invest it all in crypto. I told him I did not know anything about that.

Several months later he had a new car, HD TV in every room of his apartment, expensive mountain bike. He said he made money in crypto on that $2000.

So...if I had a computer with a graphics card, that makes me, well besides a potential zillionaire, maybe even a influencer on social media.

When hunting for and/or investing in pixels is the new normal...

Well, I think we are in deep do doo.

Of course at this point, neither does investing in stocks, even investing in anything you can't eat or helps you get things to eat.

It seems the run-of-the-mill inmates have let the REALLY crazy inmates out, and now THEY are running the asylum.

While I am not sure of bitcoin is any more wasteful or idiotic than the current implementations of government-backed fiat currency, the artificial demand it is placing on graphics cards is defiantly not good for the long term.

I also believe the people getting into it at this point are wasting their time and money. The bitcoin millionaires are already made; those jokers buying $50,000 mining machines may still make their money back at this point, but they are jumping on a collapsing bubble.

How about the fact that the pipeline hackers would have had a hard time getting an untraceable payment without CraptoCurrency.

cripto is not going away untill governaments go against it like china.
it was created to laundry money, just like art expositions for rich people. cripto is a good way for governaments to fund stuff they dont want the general populace to be aware of.

You do not need cripto to laundry money but anything can be used to achieve this target.

What is good some poor people stopped to be ones but 99% could not get anything out of this

Just wait until all printed/minted money goes away and it all goes digital. Then the real fun begins...

It would also be a huge cost savings for national governments since they won't need those huge printing/minting facilities anymore.
