A couple major battles but the rest of the 3.5hrs attempted to describe/get-inside Alexander "the man" -- using a variety of techniques. We enjoyed it.
I may give this movie a shot one day. I stayed well away from it when it was first released in theaters due to the overwhelming negative reviews from critics.
I mean it's not like we've had an over-abundance of movies about Alexander the Great so the one from Oliver Stone is pretty much all there is to check out.

I could see that many would not like this one. It had little major action -- outside of two major battles. But, stressful drama did often rear its head -- sometimes violently -- during which the engaged viewer is "on edge".
It took us through Alexander's entire life -- not in a boring way. It showed Alexander as a "type A+++" personality who had great dreams for humanity he could actually "make true" -- yet, he let all those "+++"s get in the way at times with bad outcomes They showed how he became the man he was, and how it turned out for him and humanity.
Now that 'Food Wars' (...that built America) is done, other than the occasional Archer or South Park rerun, the TV has once again given way to the stereo (rationing hearing for later years, no headphones unless outside exercising or doing yard work).
After a glorious Costco shopping tonight, we're going to watch one of our later VHS replacements (buy them when they're cheap)...
In other news: Blastman gets D from gay college professor...lol.

Flash Gordon is what I call a highly watchable B movie. Lots of cheese and camp but the Queen soundtrack, Max von Sydow's amazing performance as Ming and the hot women make the movie worth watching.

1) "Leprechaun Returns" -- Okay, this is a Leprechaun movie, so those who have seen them know what to expect. To the movie's credit, they tried to go back to what the original film was like, and they did a decent job here. However... I fell asleep. I didn't bother watching what I missed later--probably made it 2/3rds through the film. One issue? This may sound superficial, but... the cast members were uninteresting to watch. I expect entertaining stereotypes and... hotties. They had neither, for in today's twisted world of "justice," we had average looking actors and actresses playing average roles on an average script. Bottom line? Average rating. ** out of ****.
2) "Casualties of War" -- I have seen this before, many years ago, and the movie is no less shocking or controversial now as it was then. Strong subject matter here about the misdeeds of a few US soldiers during Vietnam. There wasn't much combat, but the film wasn't about combat, anyways. The film is based off a supposed real incident, but they changed things up for the ending to make it "better." Still, what occurred should never happen from any serviceman, not just American ones. This should not happen, period. Good movie, *** out of **** because frankly I wouldn't want to watch it again and again, of which doing so is a requirement to add an additional half a star. I love De Palma movies, too, but this one, while very well done, was about subject matter that is just too disheartening to endure with repeated viewings.

Yup, I remember "Casualties of War". It was the product of the typical Hollywood "copycat" syndrome whenever there's a movie that is a huge box office and critical hit. Of course I'm talking about "Platoon" and the subsequent numerous Vietnam movies that came afterwards in the late 80's to capitalize on that success.

I also forgot to mention Panzer that some of the acting was really hammy. Definite "copycat" syndrome, and this one lies in the shadows of its predecessors.

Absolutely. No one really remembers it except for film geeks like us. On the other hand, "Platoon", "Full Metal Jacket" and "Apocalypse Now" are all very well remembered in American pop culture.

There's also the lesser known 84 Charlie MoPic and Iron Triangle, both available for free on Youtube if you don't mind watching them in low resolution.
Tour of Duty was good, I bought a dvd version, but it's a bad version without the awesome music in the opening and closing credits. There's also Uncommon Valor from the early 80's. I remember it being good, but admittedly haven't seen it in decades.
