Could use some NASA $100 an hour janitors with fire extinguishers though on the pad.

It's pretty cool, but I have to say it's about the ugliest rocket I've seen. I'm sure there are very good reasons why it looks like it does, and it obviously works well, but to me, it just looks like a grain silo or something.

My thoughts to.
You have to break some eggs in order to make an omelette. The Germans learned that lesson well with the V2!

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Love him or hate him, Musk is a brilliant trailblazer.

It's always good when stuff does not blow up when landing Musk IMO is typical of a great visionary/inventor ...most are at least eccentric in some way. i don't love or hate him ..Just think he is brillinat and doing a great deal to advance our technolgy both on and off planet....all the while making a crap ton of money

To me it's entertaining how much these look like the 1950s or even earlier 1920s "imaginations of space travel" rockets...

SpaceX abandoned the 'composites & heat tiles" approach when they realized that certain types of stainless steel had the desired properties at both high temperatures and cryogenic temperatures, and that SS was better suited to the rapid prototyping / manufacturing that would be needed. It was brilliant, outside of the box thinking, IMO.
One thing to keep in mind is that Musk isn't interested in an Apollo program approach of send a few missions, one at a time. He wants to send a fleet of ships, repeatedly, to colonize Mars. Mass manufacturing is a key ingredient.

Absolutely. Check out this clip from Fritz Lang's "Frau Im Mond" from 1929. The rocket looks quite similar to the SpaceX ones doesn't it?
