They are quite bland looking. Almost grey sometimes.

WT, those are the winter trees, which make sense that you are seeing those as you are flying in January, at least in that screenshot. Try flying a QC in April or May and see what you get.

I’m going to have a good nosy later..my 1st impressions of the Winter trees is that they looked a bit “plastic” ? Certainly looked different from the Spring, summer and Autumn sets.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Do the No Snow and Light snow Winter trees seem a bit "Cartoony"? (could be the shadows? ) No mods were on...Taken at 1440p resolution.. Not criticising guys im loving the sim and each patch makes it better, just wondering on your thoughts..Cheers

Adger;

The winter light snow and no snow trees maybe could use a little more tonal contrast to bring out the shadows between the branches, or maybe it's the angle of the sun. What do you think?

I guess you could argue that the light snow trees look a little flat or two-dimensional, although I don't really notice them that much.

Robert, that sounds like it might help.

I reported the same solid green looking trees about three weeks ago after watching Hellshade's video, glad to see others notice it, too https://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4563872/re-woff-bh-h-ii-screenshots#Post4563872

Hopefully a future patch/mod will make the deciduous trees bare of leaves in winter.

They don't have leaves on, but a quirk of alpha (see through part of a texture) on trees is if you increase it, they tend to vanish over a certain distance, and that isn't so realistic.
We did of course do tests and decided on these. However, we do have the alternative trees available still, which we could replace in the next patch....

Thanks Pol, like i mentioned im loving the sim ..talking of the alternative trees which i admit do look better in your pics (imo) could they be made as a mod? or would they have to be in patch form? cheers.

They could be in the next patch, but then these would be the Winter trees going forward for everyone of course.

Personally, I favor the alternative winter trees a bit more than the current winter trees, at least for no snow or light snow cover conditions.

In heavy snow conditions, I think the current trees look a bit better, but since we rarely fly with heavy snow cover, I still think we should go with the alternative trees.

It's never easy or simple, is it....

Always some form of frustrating give-and-take for you guys! It'd drive me back to the bottle.

Another interesting thing about the trees is that, as far back as WOFF UE (have confirmed on my rig.) - if you run your lod bias setting at -1, a nice little effect is created where, depending on view and camera angles, tree branches appear to move in the wind - reminiscent of such effects sometimes seen in the old IL2-1946 when fully modded (then again, it might be my -1 lod bias causing that in IL2-46 as well).

Cheers all,
Von S smile2
