Here in Michigan the hospitals are still very busy with COVID. Now we have a new variant to deal with. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday that the state has confirmed the first case of the India variant of COVID-19 b1617, which has been dubbed a 'double-mutant' variant. While I've decided that getting vaccinated is right for me, this thing just doesn't seem to want to stop mutating. How many shots are we going to finally need? Are we always going to be behind the 8-ball on this? COVID and COIVD vaccine exhaustion is starting to get to people. I fear that this makes making clear and rational decisions harder to make.

If this is going to be an annual thing, where the variants just keep getting nastier and nastier {by design?}, I'm going to seriously look at moving out to some rural area and try to ride it out there.

It might be well worth it to avoid the drastic coming economic consequences and draconian lockdowns alone.

Generally viruses mutate to weaker ‘versions’ so it’s not getting ‘nastier’. I don’t understand / know where to begin with “by design?”

No 5 or even 4G coverage in our village so nanobots not activated. smile

I think to allay any doubts, conspiracy theories or suspicions about the virus, it's impact or government reactions and strategies to fight the pandemic, one only has to look at how the Indian populace are suffering at present.

There is no evidence that this happens; any more than coin flips tending to get more heads or tail outcomes.

Weighing in late...

Mom slept the day of and most of the next day after shot number one. Oddly enough, one of the guys on the field who's from Austria had the same symptom. Other than falling out for 24 hours they had no other side effects.

I haven't gotten the vaccine as I'm waiting a bit to make sure the at-risk folks have first shot (pun intended) at it.

At this point I'm kind of ambivalent about it. I worked closely with two people at work (no masks, close contact) that got the 'Rona and I didn't. And they didn't go to the doctor immediately - heck, by the time they went they were probably past the infectious stage. I'm thinking that my General Immunity thanks to the zillion friggin' shots for everything from Measles to three types of the Black Death is covering my hind end.

As to air gun shots, yep, in the late '80's they were still using them in the Army. Flinch and they would cut a soul's arm long and deep.

On microchips: I'm not worried about it. Heck, with all the other vaccinations and donating blood, I'm not just tracked, I'm a repeater station. That probably explains why the doctors insisted I get not one, but two colonoscopies - the batteries needed replacing, no doubt.

My brothers wife got her second Moderna shot yesterday. Her harm still really hurts and she now has developed a "bubble" like soar at the injection site. I don't know if I have ever heard of that yet.

So far ok.

On Thursday I take my mom to the gym for the first time in over a year (heated pool therapy, machines, senior exercise classes), so I'll be back in the library twice a week.

Friday evening my wife and I are going to Costco for our first grocery shopping in over a year! No more limited-selection deliveries (mostly from a local grocery store, some from Target and Costco). whoohoo The farmers markets have been nice though, not going to stop getting fresh local produce.

Never stopped shopping since the beginning. Wife was a front worker at Walmart and I was just hired for the remodel team. There were shortages lasting into this year.
Never been afraid of Covid. Not to sure sure about getting the shot after so many co-workers get sick from the shot. Now up 13.

I'm a lot less fearful of Covid now that my parents (in their 80's) are vaccinated. I very rarely go to the movies or eat out (unless I'm on a road trip). My primary outing is attending local Rock shows (sooo missing the Molly Ringwalds), but I doubt these venues will be reopening anytime soon. I'm done with arena concerts but looking forward to open stadium LSU football again (after that horrible last season, our favorite nosebleed seats should be dirt cheap! smile ). So grocery shopping, Rock shows, a day on campus, and long road trips are what I'm most looking forward to. Also hoping my wife can keep working from home (something her company was embracing before the pandemic).

But I'm patient, no rush. Rush. I really miss Rush (would have been my one exception). frown

Arm is sore, a little less than the 1st shot.

Nothing else so far.

I just got my Covid test results - negative, honestly don't know if that's a good thing or bad?

Wife and I both got the shots two weeks ago. Our second Moderna shots. I had a sore arm. She was sick as a dog for one day. Both felt fine after a day. Same with a lot of my co workers. It's like 50-50 as far as some having barely any reaction vs some feeling pretty sick.

We've got our shots recently (as noted). Most others we know also have them.

During the last year we mostly stayed inside. Shopping trips for food were "quick" -- to the point. And, if we touched it we bought it. Lots of on-line purchases.

Now, we feel free to be with family, friends, and "in public" -- unmasked with family and friends. We'll continue to be careful "in public" until the "all clear" is signaled.

I don't think there is going to be an "all clear" signal, just periods where restrictions are relaxed between surges.

Exactly. Just like the 'terror alert colour system', you will never again see it go back to green. A scared citizenry is an obedient populace.
