From that picture in the video alone I deduced it was a "Running Man" movie. I read the description and I was right.

Yawn.

Who cares? Seriously dude we don’t need a play by play update on what you will be watching on tv.

I don't have hope about this. 5 seasons, story before the 6 movies, each episode have different directors and writers. The reason the 6 movies were fantastic is because Peter Jackson held it tightly together and he wrote all 6 movies together with same 2 screenwriters. https://www.theverge.com/2019/7/3/2...mazon-prime-video-lord-of-the-rings-show

A lot of $ doesn't make it good https://collider.com/lord-of-the-rings-amazon-tv-show-budget-500-million/ How many expensive movies we have seen that were junk? Too many!

How about watching the Amazon series before you judge it?

While I reserve some judgement for the time being, in truth time is to precious to waste it watching things that are likely to be junk.

The LOTR movies were fantastic, but the Hobbit movies were a joke. A 95,000 word novel was turned into three movies--what a joke.

The LOTR trilogy, btw, is about 481,000 words, and was also made into three movies.

The Hobbit films were bloat.

Agreed. They were obvious money-grabbers. CGI fests with little or nothing to do with the actual book.
There are videos on YouTube, interviews with Peter Jackson and others, where they basically state they had to make it up as they went along, due to all the problems the movies had with directors and writers coming and going, etc.

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Plus there was also the MGM bankruptcy which delayed production on the films for well over one year. Guillermo del Toro spent 2 years in New Zealand without doing any actual shooting and understandably he decided to leave the project and go home.

None of this ultimately matters though since all three Hobbit films did very well commercially when they were finally released.

Yeah . . . the first movie started out all right, but only got worse as it went along.

Plus, the Hobbit is not supposed to be a serious story . . . if anything, it was written (at least the first half) more in the vein of something like Pirates of the Caribbean (Action/Adventure-Comedy) or maybe an Indian Jones movie, not some semi-tragic melodrama.

I really enjoyed the LOTR movies at the time, but they haven't held up particularly well for me.

In which ways has it not held up well? I saw the trilogy about a year ago and I don't think the films have aged at all.

Agreed. There really was no creative reason to have made three Hobbit films. Financially though all three films did very well so naturally that's the priority for the studio.

They needlessly deviated from the source material too much.

As Christopher Tolkien put it:

“The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing…. They eviscerated the book by making it an action movie for young people aged 15 to 25. “

Entertaining films for sure, and probably the last big film trilogy I was hyped for, but they are getting into reboot territory IMO.

Well the trilogy was budgeted at around 350 million by New Line so that kind of investment meant that the films could not take the "Masterpiece Theater" approach and still have mainstream appeal. And besides, while the LOTR films indeed had a lot of action in them, it was by no means mindless action like you would see in a Van Damme or Segal movie from the 90's.

It seems that what Christopher Tolkien really wanted was a mini series adaptation by the BBC.

They could have done it without the likes of Super Legolas and the Dead Men of Dunharrow doing most of the fighting at the Pelennor Fields.

But yeah, it really needs a miniseries.
