Hello all. I am currently trying to refamiliarize myself with various planes. I am having a very hard time controlling the Fokker Triplane one of my favs. I've tried my hand a few times in QC fights but just end up stalling or spinning out of control. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I fly all planes on Realistic FM. I also am currently using Jaras Multimod v2.2 with low vert, moderate horizontal and moderate turbulence. Not sure if this matters as I was having problems with stock settings lol. Also flying WOFF UE. Thanks in advance.

There is a video posted by chill31 'Fokker DR1 Inside Out' that shows his feet working the rudder bar. I'm sure it will help you alot.

You might want to watch the DiD campaign videos of Fullofit.
He seems to be able to fly it quite nicely and I'm sure he could give you suggestions on how to overcome any specific handling problems you are experiencing. The DR1 is probably the most challenging aircraft to fly and requires constant input as it is very twitchy.

When turning, turning to the left at least, at times you have to use quite heavy left rudder with left aileron to quickly bank into a turning position(left wing down) and then once banked moderate left rudder with opposite aileron(right) while pulling back on the stick to perform a tight left turn. This is quite unnatural for me and I constantly have to think about applying the right aileron in a left turn, simple minded as I am. Turning right is pretty straight up, right rudder, right aileron and then once in the turn, pull the stick. Not that I am any accomplished DRI pilot, but this works very well for me in dogfights and I cannot tell you when the last time I stalled in a left turn unintentionally. Of course the one other factor for me is to maintain reasonable speed or you will stall no matter which way you are turning. These ain't Warbirds or Jets Homey! These be Crates Mate! Handle with care! Good Luck, hope this helps some SIr. biggrin

Keep your nose below the horizon. Relatively straightforward (ie quite intuitive) in RL, but somehow an awful lot harder in a computer sim.

I should know, have “spun in” in a Camel more times than I care to remember. The humbling thing is that in RL, the (very young) Camel novices only spun in once.

Read somewhere that we lost at least as many chaps in training, as in actual combat. Probably similar for Germans, French etc.
