My old Ati card has died on my XP computer. Have a friend who has a spare GeForce GT 730.

Any issues with running EAW with this card I should know of? That are insurmountable?
Cheers

No Horizon Fog in Direct3D.
However with GoG version it will have fog, assuming EAW-GoG will install on XP

But the game will run.

Cheers Mark. Guess I'll give the card a whirl.

You can always use nGlide for Glide Mode in EAW on XP to get fog. If nGlide installs for XP that is.
If not you have other simple choices for glide wrappers.
Just note:
EAW uses Glide 2.43 I think.
the unofficial builds of EAW use I think its base Glide 3.0.

That 730 Gfx card will work with many games, even on computers with wimpy 240 Watt Power supply; BTDT. I used same card for some time with EAW/OAW game . Worked all right depending on computer configuration/Power Supply, Always GTG with Dell 240 W PSU.

Depending in your computer's configuration, the 730 Gfx card can often be bettered. Unfortunately, nowadays Gfx cards, even used items, bring an astonishing price on Amazon and Ebay. Will likely be so for 18 months or so

As some have mentioned, adding "Horizon fog" will entail running any Nvidia Gfx card under auxiliary programs. No biggie. The Gfx card is not usually dealing with additional progs. MarkEAW is the Guru.

In Sum, 730 card will usually work in Win 7/Win 10 computer as long as RAM is decent, and CPU is also decent. My old Intel Core2Duo Intel Optiplex 760 Small Form Factor (SFF) computer did all right with the 730. But careful inspection will reveal that such SFF computers (and other computers) will allow much better Gfx cards. SFF Gfx cards, like all Gfx cards prices, currently insane. Currently using a 1030 Ti Gfx SFF card in my old Win 7Optiplex 760 Core2Duo computer, and selling 730 Gfx card on eBay. 1030 Ti card Vastly better than the 730 card. Good luck on buying decent Gfx cards at present. .YMMV.

The additional info that you posted is irrelevant wink

Perhaps. Better a bit too much valid info than too little, the Devil being in the details. Believe it or not, the 730 Gfx card is stated to run with a minimum 300W power supply. As noted above, it will run even with 240W PSU. Vastly better, same power-draw, Nvidia 1030 TI LP card currently running OK in same computer with wimpy 240 W PSU. PipsPriller's computer's details were not mentioned; such info, along with at least some of the other pertinent details, not provided. Hopefully be forthcoming, so that we can better aid aid him. I think he's in the best position to decide what is relevant to his situation, although ,having upgraded some of my computers, he might not fully understand how far his particular computer might be upgraded..

Just took a casual look today. Simple Dell laptop was about $500. I can upgrade existing Dell laptop to exceed currently-offered Dell laptop capabilities for about $120. Sure, there are some differences, but trivial compared to initial expense. YMMV.
