Done. Didn't work. Windower and wxw disappeared. I found out how to make it work. Extracted the Windower program into the main directory. It created a folder. Opening the program and dragging the exe got the same result. So I copied and pasted the 2 files into the directory, dragged the EXE into the windower and it worked!.
The result is a very clear and crispy selection screen rather small in the center of the monitor. Clicking on single mission show the different planes without corruption, and selecting a plane gets me to the arming screen. The mission itself loaded perfect and the graphics are clean and sharp. The surface of the window while playing I estimate at 95% of the monitor.

It is 1.26e which uses 640x480 screens, so that is why they are small. My monitor is 1920x1080 so for the windower I set the resolution in the "eaw.ini" to 1680x1050 which leaves room for the border on the screen with a little more space at the sides. It sounds as though you have the same as me smile

The next thing to try will be 1.28E. This uses 1024x768 selection screens.
I'm running in Win 10 at the moment so I will switch to Win 7 and organise a 1.28e download for you.

This is a link to a basic 1.28e. It uses 1024x768 screens and because of that the movies do not work.
Test set-up of 1.28e

Try to set it up to run using the windower like you did in with 1.26.
If it works then I can see no reason why UAW160 would not work it set-up in the same way wink

Got the file, Thank you. I'll try tomorrow and I'll let you know in the afternoon/evening one way or the other.

Well, is what I said. There is a hex on my machine. I followed exactly the same procedure I followed for your 1.26 file with the old results. Dragging the exe into the windower makes it to disappear together with the windower itself. Clicking directly on the exe file gets a selection screen with a green band where the choices are. Both Instant mission and Single mission are out of reach of the mouse. I tried to start a career, and I found a messed up briefing screen. Since I had this problem a very long time ago I remembered an old tool called "Direct Draw compatibility Tool" it didn't do a thing.

I'm still willing to try to solve it if you are game. I suspect that there is something in the INI file different in the versions you gave me, because the GOG version works without a hi coop. Would comparing the GOG and the UAW160 INI files show where they differ?

There are other things that we can try.

[Linked Image]

Notice the blue "+" button.
If you click it then a file selector comes up which allows you to navigate to the folder containing the exe that you want to add.
When you select it the exe that you want will be added.
Then try running the "eaw.exe" via the windower.

*****************************************************************
Here is another possibility if the previous one did not work:

Is your EAW126 version still working OK with the windower?
If so you could make a new folder named "BackUp", select all the 1.26e files and folders that are in the "EAW126" folder, then cut and paste them into the "BackUp" folder.
However, do not move any windower files that you might have put in the "EAW126" folder.

Then go to the 1.28E folder, copy and paste all the files and folders that are in it, and paste them in the "EAW126" folder.
Then try launching the "eaw.exe" via the windower

Thank you. I'll check today later on, and by the way, I may have found a solution or work around for the windower problem. I'll be online again next Saturday or Sunday. Life intruding, you know? Be back

Hi, I'm retired too an I am 75 years young. As promised, First of all I got all the instances of EAW (mainly the ones whose links you sent me) and sent them to the trash and started with the 1.26. I found out that in some instances the windower program refuses to work, and that being my case, I looked around and i found another program called DXWnd. It worked after I unticked the "run in a window" option, and ticking the stay in the center box.
It got me thinking why the GOG version works and all others have problems. I remembered playing in a voodoo emulator a long time ago so, again sent to trash, reinstall and paste several dlls. D3D8.dll-----D3D9.dll-----D3DImm.dll-----DDraw.dll-----Glide.dll
Glidex2.dll-----Glidex3.dll. It works but if I use glide the colors are messed up.
I also found out that the best resolution for my rig is 800/600 in the ini file.

Four questions wink
What resolution is your monitor?
Which versions of EAW are you running in DXWnd?
Are there problems with an ini setting of 1024x768?
Did you try what I asked you to try in my PM?

Why are you posting in a thread instructions for people to follow, then you PM him hidden instructions that know one can see, then the problem persists?

What was posted in the PM was a sequence of tests that I wanted him to carry out without a windower program.
There was no point in taking up more space here. Maybe the whole thing should have been done via PMs, but he started this thread.

Hi, my monitor is 1920/1080
I run the 1.26 version with the DXWnd, and having the weird color I reported. I chucked the DXWnd program, and pasted the DLLs I told you about. and I can use directx or glide perfectly well.
ThAny resolution higher than 800/600 gets me an unreal cockpit like I was sitting too close to the reticle and the instruments such as they are get hidden until I "lower" my head to look down.
As for your PM, no, I did not try it because I saw it was for game online, and as I explained before, that is something I don't do because my poor skills and a very low connection speed.

The reason I wanted to try the reduced 160 UAw was for the possibility of flying other battles, Finland, Spanish civil war, Russia.....

I hope I made myself clear because English is not my native language, and what it seems clear to me it might sound muddled to anybody else.

That is incorrect. It is not for online play, so I still want you to carry out that test because whether or not you get corrupted screens when you try it is important information that I need in order to help you.
