I just read on Wiki she was the husband of current Queen Elizabeth II.

Why is he a Prince and not a King?

I don't know anything about his military career but I read the arguments here.

He was on a British ship in Tokyo Bay during the Japanese surrender:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ce-Philip-1945-mark-75-years-VJ-Day.html

He also had a splendid naval career during World War 2 and he was in combat

Way past nap time here methinks...

Anyway, good thing the duchess of cornhole has decided she's a Fauci fan, and will remain in seclusion while Harry goes home to deal with his grandmother, brother, sister in law and most of his former regiment going WTF?

May the Old Chap RIP.

Its easy to mock Royals and celebrities when you are a nobody. But some of them are actually doing their duties and serving, ironically.

I assume "she" is a typo

He was a prince, not a king, because he had no authority or power.

By interesting coincidence, just the day before he passed, I had been watching some mini naval documentary on YouTube where it was mentioned in passing that Prince Phillip had been serving aboard one of the RN ships in combat. I'm not one of the royalty-worshipping types at all, but it's hard to not feel a little sentimental about the passing of such a long-lived and high profile WW2 vet.

Fully agree with you nhill40. As some others have previously mentioned here, he was really from a different era and hence different world from our current generation so I think that's why so much of his humor was seen as politically incorrect.

Don't know if it's still true of today's intake but certainly back in the 80s military (at least British) humour would have been frowned on by most of the general populace. I suspect that extended to most of the emergency services too & at university the future doctors were known for their (often controversial/poor taste) pranks. I think it goes with the territory but as the % of people that have served has declined it has probably stood out more as being "not the norm".

Prince Phillip recounts his war experience.
RIP

Not really his actions during, the war but the war years as he remembers it.

Seeing the Queen sitting all by herself was a sad sight. Imagine being married for 73 years.

"Seeing the Queen sitting all by herself was a sad sight. Imagine being married for 73 years."

Imagine slapping your kids around for not being with their mom at dad's funeral.

Absolutely loved the pageantry though, maybe replace the royals with lotto winners?

Pretty sure that would work here.

The ceremony was very impressive. Nobody does ceremonies like the Brits.

What an absolute wanker was the fellow who was interviewing Prince Philip about his was experience !! Some of the questions were so insipid as to be cringeworthy. You can to look on amazement/disgust on Philip's face sometimes at the stupidity of some of the questions. Philip did a great job of keeping a straight face ( and his cool ) though ...very matter of fact.

I agree. Prince Phillip had a lot of patience with him. I am glad he stuck it out and told his story.

I didn’t see the interview. Which questions by the interviewer were stupid?
