Lets move this over to technical issued. I'll bet we get that sorted.

Nice ones so far! And yes.. if you're having issues, no matter what they are, post them over on the Tech thread. This thread is just meant for showing off your views and experiences in the new sim. Thanks! Keep rolling!

Here are a few screenshots from my DID Campaign pilot's morning sortie, an escort of five Breguets of ESC 218 down to attack the Hun lines south of Amiens. On the return a kette of DR.1s tried to spoil the show. My man, Captain Frederick Abbott of 65 Squadron, got to experience the new AI features firsthand when he wound up in a VERY protracted go-round with a particularly skilled air Hun. The King's own did win the day, but it took a long time to do it. Well done OBD, you've made an already challenging WWI combat flight sim even more so. I love it!

Forming up 'B' Flight and heading across to the rendezvous point. Check out that enhanced scenery with all settings max'd out in the workshop.

Keeping watch over the Breguets as the armada heads south, passing Amiens along the way.

Captain Abbott's dance partner for this waltz.
[Linked Image]

Each time Freddy thought he was about to get a shot on the Hun, the slippery fellow eluded him.
[Linked Image]

Round and round and round they went, a swirling fight all the way.
[Linked Image]

But in the end Abbott got a bead on his opponent; the twin Vickers barked and brought the affair to a close.
[Linked Image]

The Captain followed the DR.1 down where it was seen to crash into a line of trees.

Freddy makes a note of the location for his report, and climbs away to rejoin the rest of his crew for the return home.

Hello.
Those of you who have BH & HII, do you notice any difference compared to PE? Apart from the somewhat artificial effect of vision with sunglasses, raindrops and blood ?? The Differences justify the payment of 60 dollars ???
Greetings.

There are a huge list of improvements over and above adding in of goggles, raindrops, etc.

For example, low-level AI combat skills are greatly improved. I haven't seen a single suicide dive into the ground in all the time I beta tested. They fly and fight remarkably well at low altitudes now. Additionally, they are much more aware of enemy aircraft when taking off and landing. Not just when you shoot at them, but as soon as they see you. I got spotted nearly 2 miles away a few times and they switched from landing to fighting to come to meet me! You may read the entire Features improvement list for yourself on the main website.

Additionally, I would suggest it's fair to say that the goggles and rain effects, etc are not merely superficial. The build-up of dirt, cracked lenses and rain effects can very much obscure your vision, much as it must have in the real war. Suddenly, your situational awareness is not as sharp and you find yourself in much more danger than before of being shot up by the fellow that you never saw coming. It has a genuine impact on the experience of how you fight and fly. The Flight Models have been improved with marvelous wind buffeting effects that bring all the flying aircraft to life. When you see it, you will feel much more "there."

Only you can decide if the differences justify the price tag, though. For me, I could never go back to PE, as great as it was. WOFF: BHaH II is greater than the sum of its many additional parts and improvements. It all comes together in a way that fundamentally changes the in cock-pit experience, not to mention all the cool new campaign features.

I was hoping this would be a great thread with all kinds of amazing screenshots posted of the all-new version... perhaps it still will be. But this warrants a response...

Like anything you purchase in a store, no one is forcing you to. You can sit back and monitor this thread as the pics get posted and decide on your own. No one is asking you to do anything. I will say this about the new version... it's not a new version, it's a new game. Every new release of this title brings it to another level, with new additions to the graphics engine, the scenery, the UI, the history, the enemy AI, skins... damage.. etc..etc.. etc. It forever expands in directions and brings with it new found data that was not previously part of the last release.

Take each release for what it's worth to you... I play Skyrim SE and spend HOURS of my life getting it modded so that it looks amazing. If I could just buy new/updated versions now and then instead of wasting all my personal time doing it... I would.

So being a Junior member... with 18 posts and dropping in with a question like you did... I'd say... stick around. Hold your money as you would. Watch this thread, watch some videos and make your own decision rather than press dedicated members to help you decided. Your hard earned cash is important to you.... my personal time is important to me.... but I gave mine to you so you can experience what the skies of WWI may actually have looked like from the eyes of a German (and some Entente) pilot.

Have a good day,

Happy to oblige, my friend! I'll leave my longer rambling for another time - suffice to say: WOFF:BHAHII is absolutely the best First World War flight sim I've ever played. I am utterly blown away by what you've done this time around!

Cheers!

Happy to post some more, Pol. This is a stunning looking sim. It somehow seems to pop more than the previous version and I feel like I'm seeing more of the unique skins this go around. Need to post over to CA, if I can ever remember my login... lol!

Just take it up for a couple of circuits he said... I've repaired the tail skid he said, see what you think when you land her he said...
What he didn't say was that as soon as I did get up there, there was a bunch of Huns just waiting to perforate my new kite and bomb the hell out of the bloody drome!

When I did get down, the place was still being plastered... what a carve up!
After it was all over, I asked him to have a look at my new kite and could he find time to fix it a bit more... Strewth!

Impressive... simply impressive!!

Just took a few crates and skins up for a look against the new scenery... that's what I love about this sim... everything color matches and looks like it belongs together! The new flight models, and all the working parts are a welcomed joy to the overall atmosphere! Love it!!

Just flew my first sortie in the rain in BHaH II. Having flown open cockpit ultralights, and having been caught in a sudden summer rain shower when flying one, I can honestly say that OBD has gotten closer with this than any other flight sim I've experienced. The size of the rain drops, the misty quality, and the drops on the goggles, along with the sound, it's all right there. Outstanding!

Some brilliant pictures already on here. Here's some from me. As well as my DID campaign in the Albatros, i've got a Jasta 3 one going on flying the Halberstadt.

Just had a new engine installed, apparently the H-S 8B engines for our new S.E.5's made by the French chappies are hard to come by... a quick flight test around the local area is called for!

Popped into St-Pol and met some of the Naval chaps, they seem to think it was a good idea for me to take up one of their Tripehounds.
What a nimble and sporty little beast it is too!

It was a glorious afternoon... such a joy to be up there on such a day.

On the way back to their drome I saw a train near the coast and chased it along for awhile... a nice end to an enjoyable flight.

Haha, thanks... sorry mate, didn't mean to torment you biggrin
Yes, the Tripe is great fun. Have to be careful you don't overstress the old girl as it's easy to loose a wing.

Not as regards them killing pilots just because you clip a fence. But OBD did the right thing and dialed that back.

22 January 1917 RNAS 1 - Johnny Sopwith is escorting two seaters towards home right after they complete their mission. Suddenly, they are attacked from behind by German Roland DIIs. The AI escort flight did exactly what it was supposed to do and broke off to engage the Rolands, giving the two seaters time to escape back home.

Last one for the weekend. We got tasked with shooting up and enemy airfield. The Halbs on the airfield decided to take off and defend the field down on the deck. The down low fighting has never been better.

In the video above, the trees appear as a solid green object and not detailed like when you are up close. I've seen this in many screenshots and videos. Could it be less detail in the LODs?

I'm running PanamaRed's mod so not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

The end of the brief but glorious career of Johnny Tripehound.

So we get a re-run on the airfield attack. As we close in for the first run, I see a number of Halbs way up above and behind us closing in on our top cover. Great....start my strafe run.

I spot several Halbs on the flight line ready to take off so naturally I start gunning for them. By the time I make my pass and circle back around, the airborne Halbs have descended and are among us. Dogfight right over the enemy airfield.

After some modest marksmanship on my own part, I set one ablaze and he falls from the sky, but when I gaze down at the end of the airfield where the parked Halbs I had strafed a few moments ago were....they were gone. Wonderful, now they are airborne too!

No time to waste, more Habs are closing in and I pick a new target to pursue. For a low level combat, he did an amazing job tossing his crate around in the sky. I actually had some admiration for the Bosch, but it was still my job to do my duty.

In the end, he too would succumb to my gun and crash right into the end of his own airfield. Sometime during that fight, someone crashed right into an enemy building, nearly destroying it and setting it too on fire. The damage to their airfield was mounting!

I look up from my latest victim and what do I see high above me but a pair of Rolands coming in for a landing. With them descending and the natural climb of my triphound, it wasn't long before I was closing in on the trailing ones tail and sending tracers into his fuselage.

The rear gunner immediately went into action returning fire. As I closed the distance until I could see that he had blue eyes, my peppering spray of fire appeared to take its toll as the craft pitched down hard just as I veered off. It was only then did I see his rear gunner found his mark and I was trailing smoke!

Worse, the hun recovered at low altitude and seemed to be flying away. I have no idea if he went down as I lost track of him soon after. Why? Because a Halb DII was zooming in at me at full speed and firing away. We missed each other by a matter of inches, narrowly avoiding a deadly mid-air collision.

With smoke still trailing my craft, I should have broken off and headed for home. My fear was that the enemy pilots, seeing me break off and trailing smoke would chase after and make quick work of me before I could get anywhere near to my own lines. I had to duke it out.

Still just a few hundred feet above the enemy airfield, I was able to lay in a long burst into his engine and fuel tank. The withering fire finally had its effect and flames licked both sides of his fuselage and poured out his cockpit. At least he didn't have far to fall before his suffering was all over.

He too burst into a ball of fire, falling like a meteor from the sky just before impact, once again right into the end of the enemy airfield! Smoke plumes were billowing up from several sites but I could see the air battle was still raging on just above the far side of the field.

At least 2 or 3 more Halbs were angrily buzzing around and firing menacingly at my squadron members. I picked another target and turned in behind him to fight, my snake-like tail of long dark smoke twisting behind me.

Just a few hard rounds into his engine was enough to set him ablaze and he fell flat from the sky. I didn't see where he crashed but it too must have been near the airfield itself if not, once again right in it. It was just then that my own engine conked out!

As my propeller wound to a halt and my glide speed slowed low over the enemy field, I had to make a hard right turn to try and land on the enemy field rather than risk crashing into the forest surround it. Even as I did so, enemy tracers zipped past my head and plane, barely missing me.

It sounded like a rear gunner from one of the two seaters but I never saw who it was. My full concentration was on trying to land without crashing given my incredibly low airspeed. With several columns of smoke billowing upward to both my left and right, I managed to bring her in for a landing and stop right next to the destroyed building.

The Huns ran out and surrounded Johnny immediately and he surrendered without any further fight. Given all the damage he had caused, the Germans kept a close eye on him and made sure he never escaped. He remained a POW until the end of the war. A sad but glorious end to his brief career!

The only really bad thing was I was getting some micro stutters that I had never gotten before in BHaH II. Well #%&*$# it if I hadn't forgot to shut down some background tasks before launching WOFF and they were the culprit. They weren't too bad at first but at the very end as I was trying to glide it, the gunfire of the enemy aircraft turned it into a slideshow for a couple of seconds. I was so mad I had made such a dumb mistake but it was truly a glorious airfield mission. THE BEST AIRFIELD MISSION I EVER HAD. THANKS OBD. THIS SIM IS BEYOND AMAZING!!!

Thrilling ride, Hellshade. Those Germans were mad!

At least Johnny gets to survive the war!

My Tripehound is still going... don't know for how much longer. Twice I've had to put down after contact with those Rolands!

Ah, the Tripe is such a beautiful staircase. I might have to set myself up in one and see how I do.

I got fired as the door man at a sperm bank.
Apparently it's in poor taste to tell leaving customers "Thanks for coming."

Just as we show over the target for a balloon attack, a flight of Spads breaks through the clouds and dives into us. Man I love BHaH II. The mission and combat experiences have never felt richer or more immersive.

So I take off for a solo flight and noticed Fe2bs well above me. I don't pay them any mind because....they are Fe2bs. Those guys never attack so I wasn't even recording anything yet.

LOL. My bad. In BHaH II they have developed a bit of an attitude.

Awful weather when we left Furnes for our daily line patrol... we aren't far from the front and as we approached we spotted four DIII's and gave chase.

[Linked Image]

One of them broke off and ran for the lines. I gave chase... not sure if he was having engine problems but I was slowly gaining on him.

[Linked Image]

Almost there...

[Linked Image]

I've got you now my friend...

[Linked Image]

One good long burst and he flipped straight over...

[Linked Image]

No recovery for him... he dove straight into the ground!

Flying with Jean Navarre in Esc 67 near Verdun in April 1916. Great skin on Navarre's aircraft.

Downing an Eindecker, it was only when I got close up to the Eindecker I realised you can actually see the bullet wounds on the pilot..... amazing details cool

Attached Files Navarre.jpgFokkerdown.jpg

"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."

On patrol with Esc 48... our new Nieuports are performing well against the Fokkers.
Flying today in such lovely weather one could almost forget there was a war on.

[Linked Image]

The patrol is led by Adjutant de Turenne, an experienced flyer.

We approach the lines... we have to be very alert as the enemy are sending up frequent patrols.

My little 'office' in the sky... I feel at home in here now.

Some new skins on Sandbaggers Mods page

Just some info:

This is Version 2.0 of User Skins. The download has 2 separate folders.

Pack 1 is the original mod with a few skins removed as irrelevant and a couple more added to make 284 sins.

Pack 2 is 147 new skins, including some for the American 1st Pursuit Group. Jastas 64w and 65 who opposed the Americans in the Toul area have some new skins, including a wingman skin for the Jasta 64w Pfalz which had been overlooked.

Alternate skins version 2.0 has some new skins, making 91 in the pack.

I am, again, posting some screenshots in the screenshot thread here and on Combat Ace.

Got'em all installed and will fly tomorrow night. Thank you Sir, I look forward to seeing what the Nieuport 28 has new to offer as I am in the third Campaign mission with them. the second mission ended with my Nieup having a random engine failure and me dead stick landing back at the Drome. cuss

I ran some of my screenshots thru some random Gimp filters. Have some more but need to compress them first because of size limits.

I recently bought a VKB Gunfighter MKIII L and I went into WOFF PE tonight for the first time to test a mod, and one hundred and twenty four minutes later I was landing a BE 2C? in the dark. But my plane didn't have an observer? Not sure what plane that is???? Anyway, the first Campaign mission was just a flight around the Aerodrome. The second mission started in the dark and I thought oh great this won't fair well. First off let me say that I did not know Combat Flight Sims could be so fun until I have now experienced them(IL2 GBS & WOFF PE so far) with this VKB Gunfighter with the 200mm extension. So far I have about 8 hours flying on it and this is the best addition to my HOTAS setup since I purchased MFG Crosswinds a few years back. Back to my screenshots, I took several pics in the dark but they just don't look that great as a screenshot so I am only posting one. BUT I flew for 2 hours on this Airship over England intercept mission and what a challenge. Just keeping close formation with my Flight Leader was hard enough, but we also flew through two separate rain storms and on the last leg of the return trip my engine started to sound like it had a carpenter inside trying to get out. Luckily I had enough altitude to limp back to Dover Aerodrome and land my tired lass. Maybe I am crazy but just before we arrived at the midway point in our mission where the serachlights were searching the night sky, I swear I saw an Airship but it slipped behind the clouds and I never saw it again. Needless to say I never broke formation with my flight leader for fear of never finding him again or finding my way home. Said all of that to say this, this was the MOST immersive set of missions I have flown in WOFF PE in a long time. I was mentally tired from that night mission and the last third of the way I just wanted to get home and land . I then started a late 1916 Campaign flying the Morane-Saulnier L?? whatever is in the pictures. I lasted 1 mission and was shot down by 3 voracious Eindecker EIIIs and I died of my injuries after successfully landing my crippled crate. Thanks Mark & Mark for this superb WWI CBFS. I had more fun & stress tonight than I have in any other CBFS in a longtime. I will graduate to BH&H II sometime in the near futre, but in the meantime PE is still serving me well. Here are the pics. I did lighten up the gama in the at night picture to make it a little more acceptable to view.

Sandbagger has hosted/posted version 3 of User skins and Alternatives.

Pack 3 has 193 new skins/all the older skins have had an image quality upgrade and some rework. Some misplaced skins were removed from Pack 1 to Alternatives or deleted. So now there are 279 in there and 149 in Pack 2 and 124 in Alternatives.

There are skins for Kest 1 and 3/some Fokker DVII {Alb) with five color wings and fuselages and t here are skins to fill in the BH&H2 gaps in Jastas 4/5/10 15 and 18. I made some early Pfalz DIII factory camouflage crates for Jasta 10 and put some in Kest One, just for Fun (poem).

Pictures are posted in the screenshots thread here and on Combat Ace Forum.

jerbear, YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! This awesome. One question, so I assuming it would be wise to just download all three and replace the old 1,2 and 3 alternative skinpacks to keep up to date with your changes Sir? Thanks again as I am just going to fly mission to in my Official 94th Squadron Campaign as Douglas Campbell. Thanks so much Sir for all of your 'Hard Play'!!!

S!Blade<><

Edit: Think I got it, I just uninstalled all of the old and JSGME'd the new ones in. Thanks mate!!!!

Hiya Jerbear,

The J28w Arthur Merz skin you created that uses my 5-color Alb skin with his markings pulled from my OAW Fokker D.VII skin.... where did it show that he flew the D.VII variant, let alone the Alb Built? The Alb built Fokker was just some "smoking mirrors" work I did to give the extra variant and add the 5-color lozenge. There really is no "Alb built" it's just a Fokker V.II with the Alb colors and factory markings. We missed a lot of skins because of the way we interpreted the datafiles. I noticed this in the last set of Alb D.I/D.II skins I made as I was testing.

Is that how you found it? I don't know that the Alb built skin is correct for Jasta 28w. Did they fly that variant? The Alb built D.VII (not the OAW) was mostly assigned to the higher Jasta numbers.

Also... when you make these skins.. don't pull all of the markings... mix them up with each variation of plane. Meaning, if a pilot (ace) flies a D.VII, OAW and D.VIIF and you have nothing to go by but one skin... dump some of the markings, add a stripe, move them to different locations.... change the colors... etc. It wasn't often a pilot stuck to the exact same marking on every plane he was assigned. Not sure why, but they tended to change them a lot. Some did not... many did. Josef Mai, Ernst Udet, Herman (Fat Ba$tard) Goring, MvR, to name a few. Every plane Udet flew looked totally different...same for Mai with his crazy paint jobs.

Thanks,
OvS

Blipping on my approach to the Aerodrome. Love the smoke effect tied to blipping. A nice touch OBD. Just look at that 94th Sqaudron skin, #10 Douglas Campbell got 2 Alb DV kills in his first mission. Great work/play jerbear!!!

Lovely pics. of WOFF PE there Blade, and of the excellent airfields mods. by RJW, Lou and company. By the way, engine blip smoke effects are toned down as far as I remember in the BHAH.2 edition of WOFF.

Happy flying,

I certainly hope not. I like the effect very much the way it is in PE. Upon letting go of the Blip Switch the rotary first belches out black smoke(un-burnt fuel) immediately trailed by a Whitish/bluish(maybe a little more bluish tint?) smoke(the castor oil that wasn't burnt) in a most convincing fashion. The smoke even comes from the bottom of the cowling as it should and clears up very quickly as the rotary resumes normal combustion. This looks most convincing to me and if OBD did tame it down from what PE has now I hope they will consider changing it back in a patch. Would love to see some pics of it in BH&HII, but you have to be quick on the pause button to get a good pic of full effect.

Sorry James…somehow I missed your 29 July and 3 Aug postings. Just saw them this morning.

Yeah…I know your 5 color fabric DVII fuselage is just markings and not a model of the Alb variant, but the smoke works well enough.

I wanted to do something that was all 5-color and swiping your fuselage, filching the the 5 color wings and undersurfaces from the nice Schuster, Jasta 17 DVII, (by the way...any idea who made that?) then making my own upper surface for the horizontal stabilizer. Which seems to adequately do the job of creating the illusion I wanted, if not perfectly. Lazy way around.

Yes, I find a lot of missed skins, but I figured a lot of that is because units and pilots were added after the skins pack came out, cant catch everything when the situation is that fluid.

I don’t know if Jasta 28s flew the Albatros variant or not. There are huge gaps in what we know about these units since we bombed the cr** out of the Potsdam Reichsarchiv. So, could’a.

I presume that with any military supply system, they send you what they have one hand and if that happens to have been built in Johannesthal, then that’s what you get and be happy about it.

I’ve been making the changes of position and markings you mentioned along with some things like cowling adjustments since I learned how to jury rig a template to use with them but still have a number of older ones that need work. I go back through them to make changes as I go along, continually improving here and there.
I also do some of the things to change the markings for the same pilot on different machines, leaving out or adding something, changing to a different marking sometimes or even taking over the markings of someone who has left the Staffel. I think I read that Hans Muller used to change his markings up every so often because he heard the English were putting bounties on the heads of known aces and he didn’t want them to recognize him.

In answer to the 5 Aug posing, glad you’re enjoying the skins, pack 4 coming out soon with another 170 or so, probably this week.
Jerbear

Just wanted to share a shot of some of the new things from the Custom Consolidated Facilities Mod.  This is Nieuwmunster Flanders Aug 1918, Seefrosta I.  This nice aircraft shed is on the takeoff end of the airfield.  Lots of nice detail to the shed itself and to all the ground personel. These are details added to the standard aerodromes by the Mod.  Very impressive, well worth a Control-Tab walking tour.

Thanks all you CCF Modding guys, beautiful work.

Tried to post this on Combat Ace but it's too large [Linked Image]

My girlfriend's 4-year-old sister really wanted her own plane.

[Linked Image]

It's a really rough job and there's some details I want to touch up on later, but she's 4 and she wanted it now.

@Albrechtkaseltzer -- well done if you did that in under the attention/patience span of a 4 year old. Love the koala.

And here we witness a very rarely photographed example of two Spads mating in their natural habitat. Notice how the props are locked together and the wings are intertwined in this ritualistic dance of courtship. This is a truly splendid moment in wildlife photography, not to be forgotten any time in the near future.

And now we finally know where the Spad SA.2 came from.

Like humans, it's very bad for airplanes to mate with their own gene pool.

The designer of this one should have been smacked in the head and immediately sent to the Foreign Legion.

*hehe* You know, even compared to all the other crazy sh*t those guys were brave enough to fly...that thing just has a particular look of "No way in hell I'm getting in that" about it.

Wow.

I was testing BB's OCM 4.0 which is superb, speaking of which, here are two more pics I like. These are some of JerBears skins from his add-on skin packs as are the former pics I included in the my last post. Lovely stuff JB.
Oh and LOL Ovstachel, that Spad SA.2 looks rather ominous, and yes, off to the Foreign Legion with that engineer!!! rolleyes

So I've been splitting my flight time between WOFF and the new Microsoft Flight Simulator and my jaw hit the desk last night playing through my 1915 British campaign. As our patrol of Bristol's headed out I could see the cloud cover break and the small village below. MSFS uses a technique they call Photogrammetry, which creates some genuinely convincing images of the ground. It's surreal to fly over your own home as the sim models the weather just outside your door. But for a 20+ year old game engine to do the same thing - to essentially create 1915 Photogrammetry? I'm genuinely astonished! It's hard to complete missions because I keep pausing the sim to take more screenshots!

There is a screenshot on Facebook that has to be the best screenshot I've seen, it's superb.

No one has posted screenshots since August of last year.

This used to be a very popular thread.

Here is something that might be of interest.

I ran into some Fokker DVI from Jasta 75, way down south in Alsace.

I've flown them but have never taking the opportunity to fight one.

The AI fly them much like a DR1 and in a mixed formation of the two types against Kest 4 I couldn't really tell the difference. They're a deadly little plane in good hands.

You will encounter them from 15 July to 15 August 1918 if you fly French down in that area. Both Jasta 75 and Kest 4 fly some. No aces, just the squadron default wingmen.

I had the pleasure of shooting down one of these, it was quite a scrap.

Great shots Hs!

I particularly like the 2nd group with all the aspects of the Dreidecker taking down the RE.

Thank you. I'm pumped for more news about the next two WOFF expansions. Belgians and who knows...but I'm hoping maybe the Italians.

Lots of skins to play with, especially if we get Italians and maybe some Austrians

Been far too long since I uploaded some photos. They won't be as action packed as Jerbear's, but they are pretty.

I think those pics would look much better if you could lighten them up a bit.
They are pretty dark on my end.

Bad weather.

Sometimes I think in WOFF we fly in weather that would make the guys back then just stay on the ground or turn back if they ran into it unless they were specifically ordered to get their butts int the air.

That's a decision you can make if you're leading the flight but the AI don't seem to mind it.

You can see em a little better here. These are all, by the way, from the jerbear User skins Mod.

Just a few shots of a little dust up between 56 Squadron and FAA 293b.

The DFW's are based on the information below. They were originally in one of the jerbear Mods but have been incorporated into the WOFF Skin Pack.

Reinhard Kastner wrote an article on the markings of FAA 293b for Propellerblatt issue Nr 40 in 2018. In that article are 16 photos of various aircraft from this unit, including the DFW and Hannover.

According to Mr. Kastner, British G number XG13, a DFW, belonged to this Abteilung. In December 1916, this unit, which was, up until then designated as FA 7b, was reclassified as FAA 293b.He says that the odd looking 7 on the aircraft was used as a unit marking from December 1916 up until around March 1918.

The fliers were superstitious about this change and the loss of their luck number 7. To avert the bad luck they believe this would cause painted this 7 on all aircraft. Mr Kastner provides 9 photos of aircraft from this unit bearing the odd 7 marking on a white background.

Also, according to Jack Herris, a sample of fabric from XG13 is kept in the Imperial War Museum. This sample is a dark bluish green. This DFW is believed to be C.V C.4686/17 which puts it in a DFW built C.V batch that ran from C.4578 to C.4727/17. These C.Vs were streaked dark bottle green and bluish green applied heavily with a light yellow primer on the underside.

Around March 1918 the “7” unit marking was abandoned. Perhaps all the old pilots to whom it mattered were gone by this time or the Kammandeur was a hard ass, who knows. In any case, at that time only tactical numbers on a white background were used.

Rick - it helps to use bombs. Not very sporting, but why not use a sledgehammer if you have one.

Hi all,
I stopped skinning aircraft for OBD back in 2017, but it's nice to see so many still in-game.
I looked back at the list, quite a lot.

It does look pretty high, doesn't it. I don't remember the scenario, it was just at the altitude the Sim set up for beginning the mission is progress after takeoff.

Guess I'd better start taking one along.

A couple of anomalies that occurred recently in my game.

First, is a mixed Flak unit, with a British searchlight team, combined with a German Flak gun. I was just trying to get some ground shots for a story and spotted this when I went to snip it.

The other two are quite interesting. It seems that my copy of the sim has taken up skinning.

These are supposed to be Kest 4 Fokker DVI, which I attacked with a flight of SPADs.

I have never made any skins for Kest 4, so there are no skins for that unit, it should have been using the default skin.

Instead, my Sim made a brand new aircraft, a Fokker DR1/DVI with a DR1 fuselage and the DVI wings.

It also created a squadron marking for Kest 4, giving the fuselages Richard Plange from Jasta 2s personal marking, combined with a white band that could be on a number of skins..

The Sim, I thought, did a pretty good job.

Pretty good job, yeah. I particularly like the new aircraft type too.

I think maybe my Sim has become sentient.

Maybe the Devs should think about hiring that program to help with the scenics and R&D and such. transformer

You did the correct thing. Can't be too careful with that guy.

Oddly, I'm pretty sure two of my old college teammates (same surname) were related.
I looked up an old team pic and the younger brother looks just like Werner

Karolus Barenfanger with the stripes

Hans Böhning with the Bavarian lozenges, getting shot up. He tried to break for it, but I showed him no mercy. That's just what I'm like.

Unrelated shots. The DFW is from FAA 282, I believe it's one of the one's that were accepted for the WOFF Skin Pack a while back.

Jerbear! Your skins are superb!

I've made a video of my latest campaign RFC 70 Starting on January 1st 1917 - still going on April 10th! I'm not playing as strictly as the old DiD days ... I like outside views and TAC for ease of life but I am playing normal claims etc and Dead is Dead!

Great stuff! Also, was that Sopwith wing stock? I haven't flown it in a long time...

Great video Seb.

Just a comment for the developers regarding damage impact. At the 8.25 point in the vid that Albi is done for, top wing shreded. But still flying around in gentle curves. Would be nice to see a victim in that position to immediately dive out of the fight an attempt a landing. No real pilot would fly around as the AI does, he would try to land before his wing rips off.

Sometimes they will, but the guy isn't really fighting, just trying not to be shot down. He is in no position to break away he has the immediate issue of someone trying to kill him. Diving with a broken wing is also a no no, and gentle curves are about all you can do - he's on a lose-lose path.

Hallo @BB,

nice screenshots!
Maybe it is an idea to write which kind of cloudsky we can see, when the sky is the middlepoint : default or @BuckeyeBob's great OCM 5.0 (full, reduced or lighter version) or an other mod.

Greetings

Love these pictures! The sunsets are beautiful BB and the Mountains exquisite Jerbear! I've made a Video of a furball in the much-underrated Airco DH5 against a number of Albatross DIII - I hope you enjoy it. Just remember every landing you can walk away from ....
