Memory lane sort of thread...

I recently went nostalgic and tried unsuccessfully to play an old favorite of mine; FASA/Microsoft's MechCommander 2. And it got me thinking that surely something newer like that game exists. There are a few, and I'm currently playing one that's only 2 years old (Battletech) rather than 20 years old.

So, this being SimHQ, I figured a few of you might have old games you like and still play, that then lead you to play newer or related similar games, and wondered what they might be?

Eaw/il2/War Thunder/il2 GB.

Still playing a modded DayzSA , Deer Isle map, which is awesome and been redone with thicker undergrowth, destruction, hardcore zeds, extra viruses and cures plus a ton of mods that give it a wicked Stalker vibe. 1pp hard core survival with radiation, pve+pvp zones and a great admin. Nothing still has come close to what can come out of this game...but i hope something comes along one day that is open world, 60-80 plus players, permadeth and all the interaction that makes it such a great pc experience.

Medal of Honor on the original Playstation was my introduction to first person shooters. But it led to playing all those great early 2000's WWII games. I did not get a pc until the next year. Vietcong was the first PC game I bought, the original COD, H&D2 and IL-2 Sturmovik were early PC purchases. I am doing a run through Hidden & Dangerous 2 right now. finally beat that bloody Spaghetti Airport mission. I had to do it twice though, as after the first run, I only had one sole survivor. I needed 2 min soldier to operate the flak truck.
Original Ghost Recon led me to Rainbow Six 3. 2001 to 2005 is probably my favorite gaming era.
