I work hard to find obscure movies, as I've basically seen every mainstream movie worth watching that I know of. Naturally, a term like "obscure" is a relative one. For example, "Barry Lyndon" and "Lost Highway" are certainly not obscure movies for film buffs but they most certainly are obscure for the overall general population. True. Much of what I watch isn't mainstream, for sure. I love slow, dialogue and plot heavy films.

Godzilla vs Kong. Not much of a Godzilla movie as they focused mostly on Kong and puny humans. It's not gonna win any awards or probably be remember for being great years from now. However, it certainly was a fun time. This is essentially what most of the movie reviews said that I read over the weekend. For what it is (an action monster movie), it was done quite well.

I saw two movies this weekend, both from 1991:
1) "A Shock to the System" - this is a Michael Caine classic I've seen before, quite a while ago, which is really good. Not a moment is wasted in this black comedy thriller that is perfectly stitched together. This movie(and original 1984 novel) may have even been the basis for Brett Easton Ellis' later novel "American Psycho," as the parallels are there, albeit a different modus. *** out of ****
2) "The Hard Way" - Okay, this was early 90s pulpy Hollywood, in an attempt to steal the magic of Lethal Weapon, minus the dogged "I gotta retire from this sheet" sidekick, where Fox is Joe Pesci and I swear(hope) James Woods was overacting on purpose to make fun of Mel Gibson. I think he was, because he's far too bright of a guy to act like a fool. Regardless, I had a grin on my face throughout the film and laughed a few times. If I had seen this in the theater I wouldn't have felt I wasted my money, despite being more mainstream. I don't even remember watching this back in the day--maybe I didn't. Good, fun movie. *** out of ****

Hey, I actually enjoyed "Prince of Thieves" immensely. The camp was real, but the movie was fun and it had swords and slayings with a big budget. Mel Brooks' later film "Men in Tights" was also lots of fun...
I do like Kevin Costner, regardless of his inability to bust an accent.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7349662/BlaKKKlansman. Ron Stallworth, an African American police officer from Colorado Springs, CO, successfully manages to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan branch with the help of a Jewish surrogate who eventually becomes its leader. Based on actual events. Watched this on TV the other night, really good and funny at times, well worth a watch. Mick.😀

Watching Unhinged on Amazon Prime. Mel Gibson is perfect for this. Art imitating life for sure in this case.
