Fullofit, you had Tybelsky dead to rights, the fool!

Carrick, that was close Hoss!

Albert, a gong presented by the man himself. Nice pics.

Feldwebel Karl Kent
Jasta 56
Chaussee
April 4, 1918

With the loss of pilots and lack of fuel reaching the forward airfield, 56 only flew one escort mission yesterday. It had been an easy flight with no contact. That afternoon after the patrol,Karl had spent in conversation with Leutnant Ludwig Beckman. Karl picked him for as much information as he could on tactics. Beckman seemed to be a jovial sort and seemed happy to share his knowledge with the young pilot. As their conversation on tactics had consumed most of two hours, Beckman leaned back and lit his pipe which Karl took as a signal that the conversation was over. He was about to excuse himself when Beckman asked, “So, I hear your father served with the Baron himself eh?” Karl relaxed back in his seat and replied, “Yes he did, in the first year of the war.” Karl explained about his father loosing his leg in an accident and continued. “It has not not done much for his disposition I’m afraid. He had high hopes for a military career. He is beginning to accept the way things are but it has been difficulties. My mother has been a saint through the whole ordeal.”
Beckman listened then spoke up, “Karl, your a good pilot. You have a lot to learn but if you apply yourself and do not take too many chances, you can come through this with a little luck. We will make Herr Kemp proud of you yet!”

The morning of the 4th found flight Zwie escorting again. The lines were changing fast and the top brass needed up to date information. That was the reason given for flying in such awful weather. As the flight made a slow turn SW near Bapaume a flight of Spads came out of the clouds in front of them. Karl immediately climbed for more altitude as the Frenchmen passed under him. He turned and saw a Spad on Anslinger’s tail. He dove on it immediately firing a burst, letting the Spad run right into it. The Spad flipped over and began to spin down into the clouds. Karl didn’t follow and got on another Spad firing at one of his flight. He let out a long burst and the Frenchman disengaged and turned west. Karl followed but could not catch him so he too disengaged and turned in the opposite direction. The fight was over. “That was quick” Karl thought. He headed home.

Back at the airfield, word came in that Max Hammer was shot down and killed. “He never would listen” said Beckman to no one in particular. Karl had a feeling the comment was directed at him. Not in the sense of not listening. He was just letting Karl know that he had better take heed of his advice.

The Jasta was almost at half strength now. Dinner was not a very cheerful affair.

Trustworthykebab - Wonderful news that you're signing on.

I emailed Raine with a heads up about his private topic limit.

Hope to see your man in the unfriendly skies very soon.

I wonder though, should I wait for the release of BHAHII to begin my career? Since it's supposedly coming this week to come, I'd do so.

Trustworthy, our posts must have crossed. Good to see you joining in! Me thinks you will love it. There is just someone specific about a

Robert and Carrick, thanks to both of you for the praise. This is the same skin Rudi’s been using since his butt was seated in a Dreidecker. The only difference are the crosses.

Trusty, great to hear you’ve made up your mind. Definitely shoot Raine a PM, once he gets his mailbox in order. Welcome to the Great War. You will not regret enlisting, unless you get shot. Complete your training and get your Ausweis in order and pin that Flugzugführer-Abzeiche to your tunic.
Hopefully BHaH2 will be out in the next few days. Might be a good idea to start there. You’ll save yourself the headache of migrating your pilot. Hals und Beinbruch!

Albert, Idflieg, what can I say? They’re fighting very hard with unemployment, hence the cross job. Seriously, does anyone know what was the point of that?
Looks like Jimmy is having a day off as well and with a good reason. It is not every day that the General comes calling. Enjoy the binge while you can. Tomorrow is another “milk” run.

Carrick, very fortunate to have landed in that field with that Good Samaritan farmer nearby. I smell his daughter coming from afar already. (Sorry, that didn’t come out right.)

LtCasey, oh I have a feeling Oberst Flashar will dine on Arnold’s loogie this evening. And Gärtner will serve it to him personally. The good news he’s off kitchen duty and back in a plane. And for good reason. A confirmed kill on the first outing. Outstanding! Oberst will have to like that. Unfortunately the Oberst learned of the secret ingredient in his dinner and the next two claims were denied. Poor Arnold will have to do better next time. At least his attitude is still positive.
And yes, OOC claim is total bs_sign
Any respectable German officer would never try something like that. Despicable Tommies, can’t play fair at all.

MFair, Jasta 56 seems to be in a bit of a funk lately. Half strength does nothing good to the morale. Good thing Karl could look after his flight mates and clear their tails. I’m sure many of them are now grateful to him and will treat him better than their C.O. Keep your chin up.

NonRelevant, you should not just consider it. You should, in fact, think about it, ponder, contemplate. But not too long. Enlisting in DiD career is the best way to fly. Were it not for this I probably would fly much less. Now with BHaH2 on the horizon there is no better excuse to dive in. We will all be discovering the new goodies together. This will be like discovering this gem for the first time. In this regard we will all start from ground zero. There is no time like the present. Jump in with both feet. The water may be cold and you may experience some shrinkage, but we will all be in the same boat, erm ... overboard in this case. I feel it, it's coming on Monday! It must!

Oh how you tempt me, Fullofit. Have you considered becoming a recruiter, ahah! But you're not wrong either! Let's hope it does come on Monday, eh? The sooner the better! And once it does I might just throw my hat in the ring then.

P.S:

So ... just sign here on the dotted line. Yup, right there ... that’s right. Your soul belongs to us now.

LtCasey - An escape from the kitchen and a confirmed kill. A good start, looks like Gartner will have to win over the officer with his talents as a fighter pilot rather than as a skivvy.

Carrick - An exciting sortie and Spatenbrau did well to come down alive from it. Now more time with the nurses while they tend his burns. Life has it's benefits it seems.

MFair - Mixed feelings for Karl, a solid claim and then an empty dinner table. C'est la guerre. He'll find himself climbing the ladder quickly if he can stay alive and claim victories with all these replacements due to arrive.

Welcome to TWK and NR.

Fullofit - Fantastic effort on behalf of DID recruitment. Here's your latest gong.

"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."

Thanks Albert! BTW, I’m here only to check on the status of the new release. Still waiting.

Dear Sir Gärtner,

Its my sad duty to inform you that the königlichen Luftstreitkräfte have lost your promising young son in a heroic act of defense as of today.

You will receive his personal belongings in a few days.

Casey - Oh no, young flieger Gärtner gone already! Another brave fellow lost to this war. I hope your next man can see it through to the end.

Fullofit - A fine job with your recruiting efforts, well done. And that award is quite nice, not a Wammy mind you, but still nice.
And Rudi’s broken 70, eh? Congratulations! As for those new crosses - meh. The old style looked nicer, extra paint be dam’d.

Carrick - I wouldn’t trust that doctor any further than I could throw her Field Medical Aid Station. Walter should run away, as fast as his burns will allow.

Trustworthykebab - Great to have you with us, I look forward to your man’s upcoming stories.

NotRelevant - Enough of this “might” and “maybe”, commit man, commit! As for the Gong Fairy, he’s the one, the one with the medals bright…

MFair - Sounds as if Leutnant Beckman has taken young Karl under his wing. Having such a mentor could prove to be a real boon to your man. Too bad about Max, but then he should have listened.

Albert - So old Black Jack himself finally arrived at the 103rd. Quite the honour all the way around, but in particular for Jimmy. His first medal presented by Pershing himself! Great old photos too.
