Several people have already downloaded the patch, but I am beginning to wonder if it is worth installing the GoG 1.2 in the first place.
Sure, if you want a nostalgia hit and can tolerate the difficulties in making selections on the parameters screens then get it smile

If you need the improved frame-rates then that is another reason.
However, on my PC if I use glide in Win 10 I get frame-rates around 60 fps flying UAW160, and if I had an nVidia card I would get horizon fog (which I get anyway with my AMD card).

In Windows 7 flying UAW160 at GameRanger last night I got 60 fps in d3d:

So effectively I have no frame-rate issues, and have no need for the GoG version.

Reading the GOG EAW board, it is clear that the nostalgia hit is important for some. Especially having the smacker videos working. Others I think enjoy the simplicity of 1.2.

I do think we should encourage GOG 1.2 users to upgrade at least to 1.28 via the patch, and to that end I do think it would be worthwhile having a dedicated webpage, perhaps at TallyHo, with the links to the patch, to OAW128 with the added theatres, and to subsequent additional theatres for use with OAW128. No need to host the files there, just have the links.

Moggy, while I broadly agree with your sentiment, there is a risk of loss of certain function if the GOG people upgrade to 1.28 via the patch. For example, some might lose their horizon fog in d3d, if using an nVidia card, a considerable visual degradation for people mostly accustomed to a high graphical standard. If they opt for Glide as a solution, they will find themselves losing true widescreen, another considerable degradation, both in graphics and gameplay. These risks would need to be spelt out in advance, I would think. The GOG version seems to be very well optimised for people with modern computers-we ought to be careful with jeopardising this.

I was under the impression that Jel's patch to 1.28 did not cause any loss of function. Apologies if I have misunderstood.

Apologies, the GOG 1.28 will cause no problems, other than that it will be devoid of many of the subsequent improvements. I assumed the reference was to the further code-group patches.

This is a whole screen dump of my 1920x1080 screen, with the GoG 128 loaded but with the eaw.ini set at 1680x1050.

It was using the "dxcfg.exe" settings that I made, and you can see the black border smile

It is the Tuesday after Easter and looking at the GoG EAW forum very little is happening:

[Linked Image]

I could be wrong, but this may be an indication which reflects the number of downloads.
Sixteen threads since February 13th, and the only one that is in any way active is the UAW160. The original author, sebastianpons, took my advice and we are dealing with the issues that he has raised here at SimHQ wink

Just checking downloads at MediaFire

[Linked Image]
Only nine downloads of the replacement version of the set-up program, but the previous one has been removed so I cannot tell how many there were of that one.
However, looking at the others there were 31 of GreatShot, so there must have been at least that many installations wink

Ah I think Gog generated a lot of interest, as you see there are downloads going on - of OAW and the non-gog versions, see;

Wishful thinking Roy wink

Check this:
https://www.gog.com/forum/european_air_war#1617441649

16 threads since Feb 13th and nothing since April 3rd.
Of the 16 four are mine and one is Moggy's.
There is virtually no feedback.

The activity from new members in this forum at SimHQ is minimal, only sebastianpobs has responded and that was at my suggestion.
You can bet your bottom dollar that the downloads from my MediaFire page will be all from SimHQ readers.

Just for comparison there have been 842 downloads of my 2020 UAW160 installation wink

I might be a rarity but I read the forum and downloaded some various EAWs to dabble with a couple months before finally making an account and first posting. Just a thought that maybe there are a few that have wandered over and grabbed a few things to try. Some may come back and start interacting while others may just keep to themselves. Obviously we hope at least a few come back and interact.

If you are one of these, come say hi! Share some single player missions and/or past memories of EAW; or join us on Game Ranger for some co-op games!
