For what it's worth, I thought I would report a recent experience I had with shadowplay not working, what the cause was in my particular case, and how I overcame it,
It took me about a month of back and forth interaction with NVidia Support in which I provided a humongous amount of testing data before I stumbled upon the solution. When I identified what the cause of the problem was, NVidia support stated that it was a known issue. They did not indicate that a fix was being entertained.
For a known issue, I felt that there was little info available from them to bring it to the attention of the general public. I felt that at least the first level of support would have been helpful for "Known Issues".
In summary, If you are running Windows 7 and utilizing "Windows 7 Basic" theme for your screen display, you will not be able to get shadowplay to work. If you switch to "Windows 7 AERO" theme, shadowplay will work fine.
My recommendation is to stay away from "Windows 7 Basic" theme
There are of course a slew of other situations that can cause shadowplay to not work but that is another issue and one I certainly don't want to enter into.
Best Regards

Robert, now that you have the problem licked, will you be dropping your vids on us in DiD thread?

[Re: Fullofit]
Ah yes, the GEForce Experience. Welcome to the brave new world of IT multi-nationals where service is a word not an action. But I guess employing more than one person on the help desk cuts into profits ....
Just don't get me started on their log-in procedure. I've got stories ....
Thanks a lot ROBERT!!! I just went and built a whole new rig because Shadowplay wouldn't work on my Win 7 rig and now, I say NOW you come along with the solution. Sheeesh, some people! Where were you about a year ago when I installed Geforce Experience and tore every bit of my hair out trying to get Shadowplay to work???
I wish NVidia would post a list of "known issues" that would be a helpful basis for people like us Blade!

Further to the above: I have done further testing and have found that if you edit your "Windows 7 Basic.theme" file and change the string "Composition=0" to Composition=1" under the section "[VisualStyles]", Shadow Play will work for you. The normal location of the ".themes" files is in the following directory structure: C:\USER\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\
In the above directory strucure the designation "USER" would be replaced by your unique user name for your session.
Alternately you can do a search for all files ending in ".themes" in your windows explorer.
Hope this helps

Thanks for sharing Robert, I will probably use this to get Shadowplay up and running on my old rig. I was just asking Hellshade about Shadowplay for my new rig the other day. I am hoping to make some movies soon.
