Their motto is also changing to "Zehlehctrocutzin," from the 'ole Fahrvergnügen...

Even as cold as it was on that trip, the car had a tendency to overheat, requiring two ~30 min. unscheduled rest periods.
.
This doesn't surprise me since the few people I've known who owned a VW were frequently taking their cars to the mechanic shop to be worked on for one issue or another.

Just wanted to add that I know the New Beetle was never a *real* Beetle, just a reskinned Golf. I liked some of the older Golfs, Jettas and Passats, although I've never owned one. My favorite aunt (who I lived with at times) owned a real bug that I remember (hamster wheel in the back). My uncle never drove it. What I didn't know was that 2019 was the last year of the NB. EDIT: Or maybe I'm wrong?... https://avtocar2020.com/new-beetle-2020-prices-specs-consumption-photos/2nd EDIT: I dunno... With the 2019 Volkswagen Beetle Final Edition, we say #ByeByeBeetle

As for me, it's completely irrelevant since I've never owned any VW model and never will. That brand just doesn't interest me. I owned a very weathered '68 Bug for a year back in '89, and it was a great little car. Amazingly, zero rust under the battery, and she had a few dents and wear and tear but otherwise was rock solid - and I only gave 400 bucks for it. Once I got pulled over for speeding and DEMANDED the trooper write the ticket, as it would be proof that I could go 76 miles per hour in it (granted, it was downhill). The trooper laughed at that and gave me a warning instead. My soldiers routinely moved it around the parking lot, picking it up and placing it in different places. They also put bumper numbers and my name and rank on the windshield, just like tactical vehicles. This was also when one of the first real big waves of Californians were hitting the Seattle area, and one day I came out of the mall to see some dude standing next to it. Yessir, it's a '68. Yessir, that's an original front bumper. Nossir, there isn't any rust on it, come look at this under the battery. And yeah, it's completely stock; hell, this is probably the original paint job, as one can infer from the patina. He offered me 2,500 USD for it, in cash, on the spot. I demanded $2,500.25 and got it (I needed to make a phone call to have someone come fetch me). Being young and stupid, I actually had the title in the glove box, and signed it over to him right there (after pulling all my crap out of bug). Maybe it was some sort of special edition or something. I didn't care. Of course a Type I Bug engine drives my airplane, and does a spectacular job of it (so long as I don't starve it of fuel).

My VW became very dead last June when I clobbered the truck seen at an angle in the background here. Fortuitous really, as no-one was injured (3 dogs in the back didn't even awake!), police took no action, and I surprisingly received a write-off insurance settlement way above the resale value of a rather tatty diesel with 200k miles on the clock!
