The patch can be used if you have either a GoG version of EAW 1.28 or the EAW 1.2 which replaced it recently.
It updates the GoG installation to their 1.28 version and adds two special versions of the OAW selector.

I have just replaced the link because the previous version was giving problems with interdiction missions.
Some more theatres are included too.

Make a copy of your GoG EAW folder and run the "OAW-GoG128Apr5.exe" in the copy.
Allow it to overwrite files.

If you run the "OAW2021Basic.exe" you should see this:



There are 17 theatres to select from, and that is the main point of the exercise

If the "OAW2021Basic.exe" crashes when you try to run it it will be because the runtime files are missing.
If that happens then there is a folder named "OAW runtime set-up" which was added to the GoG EAW folder when you ran the "OAW-GoG128Apr5.exe".
In that folder there is a "setup.exe" file.
Running it will allow you to install the runtime files and solve the problem

The "OAW2021Full.exe" is a more complex version that allows you to make additional selections. You can still use it to load theatres, but you can also use it to select other things, such as gunsights.

GoG owners get 1 theatre and 1 planeset.

It is a patch because the users must have a GoG EAW installation to add it to.
You prefer to make snarky comments whilst choosing to ignore that it gives them thirteen theatres in which there are ten planesets.
The fact that it includes a file-manager so that they can easily select a theatre is a necessity.
The only versions of EAW that do not need a front end are the recent 160 versions that I wrote.

How do you propose to modify the exe that GoG released in order to make what you imagine to be a real patch?

There are many old games, Mark, with 'front-ends' and 'launchers' which enable access to extra settings and material, including some highly-regarded ones available on GOG, such as FreeSpace 2 and Il-2 1946. These might not be as common with more modern games, but that is more likely because the latter tend not to be as moddable. EAW is particularly suited to front-ends because it loads so rapidly, anyway. One can select one's desired Theatre or planeset, or whatever is available, and be in the air in a matter of seconds. It provides an enormous extra choice not otherwise available at the price of not more than a few milliseconds.

okay. Have you arranged to get there hacks or programming to the 1.2 exe made public, so the game can move on into the future?

EAW was built to allow modding. However, the only way to run the mods in 1.2, 1.28, 1.28c, and the FXExe was to put the files in the root folder.
Given that, then it can be done either manually, by copying files and pasting them into the root folder, or by using a front end. In the case of the former this is impossible in cases where there are 100s of files, especially when it comes to removing the copies from the root folder in order to load something else.
So the only credible alternative is a front-end, and that is what we have been using for over 20 years.
A front end is essential in order to manage mods in 1.2, 1.28, 1.28c, and the FXExe

I have a gut feeling that they are not using the ancient C source code that we have. I think that they are hacking the exes using other software that we do not have.

Yes, it has our 128c "Cockpits.CDF" and "3D.CDF" files added. It is not a big d/l so I did not want to patch a patch

I don't think those eaw.exe by GoG work without a directdraw wrapper present. I tested it without the gog wrapper and it would not run in a code-group 128 installation.
Not that it matters in this case with the OAW program, but I thought I'd bring it up, now.

You have missed the whole point

The persons using the patch have already bought and installed either the GoG 1.28 or the GoG 1.2 set-up.
They are patching a copy of their GoG EAW folder so all the GoG files are there already, including the wrappers.

Hope you can help/clarify guys? Everything seems to run fine (GOG 1.28) OAW 1.28 installed with theatres ect but, On GREATSHOT II (and some others) when i click on the campaign it shows default EAW campaigns.

The screen before the campaign screen shows GREATSHOT II.

Unless I am mistaken those additional theatres are BlackAdder's re-assembly of other peoples' work, such as Desert Air War, Malta and Moggy's Midway.
Most of these are already included, and I am using the "Mod Squad BoB" as the "BoB" version, rather than the alternatives.
However, if there are others that you would like to have then let me know and I will set them up

BTW if you check the first post in the thread you will see that the original download has been replaced because of problems with interdiction missions.

Just bought the GOG version today ($9.99). I think I'll install it on Win 7 comp first, and try it out. If it works OK, will install it on recently upgraded Win 10 computer to see how it works. If still OK, will try out some of the patches being offered. Many thanks to those making/offering the patches!

Many new users found that they had joystick problems. I had them too.
If that happens to you then delete "dinput.dll" from the EAW directory (or change its name).
It is there for users with gamepads and no joystick.

RIBob, how did you make out with Win10 and EAWv1.2-GoG?

I found two issues.

Hello I was able to Get Windows 10 with GoG version to work with Joystick too, the only problem I experienced is many of the VIEWS that are typically used with the F keys do not work and I can not see the VIEW represented by the F Key. Odd thing is the F Keys are recognized when I remap keys in EAW. I tried issuing the View to a different key then the F Keys and still the VIEW does show when pressing the KEY while flying. It must be something to do with the VIEW not wanting to work and not my USB keyboard. Anyone else with Windows 10 having trouble getting the VIEW Modes to show up? If so is there a fix?

I was hoping to be able to move on form EAW with some of the other newer WW2 flight simulators, unfortunately the air combat flying fighting in Wings over the Reich did not give me any enjoyment or satisfaction like the air combat in EAW. My only hope is Cliffs Of Dover and IL-2 series = so far so good (still trying to get familiar with all the keyboard commands and the padlock system.) but I have a lot of practice to do before I get to try the missions and the campaigns. The Campaigns and Dogfighting is what I loved in EAW. I had a version of 1.1 that I seemed to like the dogfighting the best with the A.I. flying the most aggressive with splatting me in the cockpit every once in awhile.

I don't recall every assign the so called 'F' Key Views to a Joystick button. I remember most of the snapviews where assigned to my hat.

Thanks for the reply, sorry for confusing, I meant to say my Joystick works fine, the default views assigned to my F keys do not work, even if I assign those views to other keys besides the F keys.

Hmm, maybe your using a gaming keyboard or extra keypad device??

Try narrow it down to which device is causing issues.

I could be wrong but someone at the GoG EAW forum posted the same problem at about the same time, so I think it was the same person. At GoG I suggested that he check his eaw.ini, and his reply at GoG reports that the problem is solved.

Try the test version. It is the 160 equivalent of 1.2 with the ETO theatre and planes.
It should allow you to compare the POV movement, and it will test how well yourPC handles UAW160

In campaign mode it is only possible to carry out with the P-51B model...

This thread was about the GoG patch, but some posts include questions re- UAW160. So which version are you using?
When I know I can do some tests to see if I can find a solution.

Just did a "little" flying on latest GOG product. It seems that they have done some "modding" to their original offering, and it's "playable"..

I'm sure the Experts here could offer better alternatives for the GOG game. Whether or not GOG deems it fit to allow such improvements is to be seen.

As far as I am concerned, the more people playing the game, the better. Hopefully some inquisitive folks will find their way here.

Their original 1.2 version was playable, but some new users found that they had joystick problems. I had them too.
Deleting the "dinput.dll" from the EAW directory fixed it.
Apparently the "dinput.dll" file was there for users with gamepads and no joystick.

The OAW patch which installs several theatres to the GoG release is still available if you use the link in the first post in this thread

After re-configuring many aspects within the Gog INI, I have had no problems. Unfortunately, many folks will not have the knowledge to do so.

I think that the GoG rationale is that their releases are for people who enjoyed the original release of their game, but lost it when new operating systems came in.
When they buy the GoG version they remember how to play from their original experience.
Hoxever, this does not help people who buy the GoG version without ever having played the original
