I'm still making my way to the outer rim of the Milky Way but I keep running into systems that only have one entry/exit so I end up in a "dead end" and then I have to replot. I am having a hard time now plotting a course that is more than 150 ly. Has anyone here run into this issue before? My Asp Explorer has a jump range of 51 ly.

I had that issue when I did the 5k ly trip for Palin. Figured I was just in a sparse area of the galaxy. I backtracked a bit and then veered off my vector about 15 degrees for a few hundred ly. before resuming my original heading. That seemed to avoid the problem area for me. YMMV.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try using the fuel injection boost to get larger jump ranges first but if that fails then I'll have do some backtracking as you mentioned.

Jumponium can get you out of a fix. The mid grade brew would get you about 75 jump. It's a one-shot deal and you have to plot the jump singly, then repeat if still stuck. But it can make the difference. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for the tip and I'll let you guys know. I have noticed that the area of space I'm in right now is extremely dim and the stars are very sparse. I'm about 20k LY "west" of Colonia right now.

Using the FSD injections has helped and I'm back on my way heading towards the edge of the Milky Way. I'll post a screenshot of my location on the galaxy map once I arrive at my destination.

Can problems like this be solved by contacting a near by fleet carrier if there are any?

Heh, I doubt there are any fleet carriers out where I'm at. wink

I know the cance is slim out where you are.

I made a stupid mistake and had to self destruct early on. Would be nice to phone a rescue truck. smile

As long as I have enough scoopable stars I have nothing to worry about. The last thing I need though is to run into some brown dwarf or white dwarf mega-field.

Isn't there a way to just show scoopable bodies in the Galactic map to help avoid such an event?

The problem is there are parts of the galaxy, and more so near the edge, where the gaps between stars may exceed jump range, leading to dead-ends.

Yes and I use that filter all the time. It still won't prevent me from having to do a major detour if I were to come close to such a large brown or white dwarf field. smile

I see. I'm not a keen traveller despite ranking up Elite Explorer twice. (I'm working on doing it for the third time with the new-fangled FSS in just a Cobra). I doubt I'll ever make it too far outside the bubble. The thought of doing all those jumps to the edges just puts me off.

You are the quintessential bubble-explorer!

The other night I said I'll just go for a quick explo run. I headed directly away from the core, and up, and within a couple hours I was 2500 light years from Sol. That was about 35 jumps. Jump range is key. I won't talk about engineering smile

When I explore I'm not really thinking about money, or science, or any of that stuff. All I really want are virgin systems so I can get my tag on them. That's no longer easy to do in the bubble. With my DBX now a legit 70-jump ship it can get out there with a modest effort.

Yikes,I think mine is 19 but I'm also determined not to engineer anything. You have to challenge yourself smile

Jump range is most important on the trip home biggrin

At 19 jump you don't miss all that much (by flying past it), so you got that going for you.
