AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT only ‘a few thousand’ cards at launch for the whole European Union

The upcoming 479 USD graphics card from AMD will see more stock at launch than other RDNA2 cards, ... the availability of Radeon RX 6700 XT will still be very limited, multiple sources have confirmed.

When we received the first information about Radeon RX 6700 XT from the board partners, we were told that the cards were already made and the stock was already prepared

AMD confirmed that board partners will begin selling their models at the same time as AMD, which is on March 18th.

AMD announces AGESA 1.2.0.2 that solves intermittent USB connectivity issues

Less than four weeks ago, AMD has begun collecting data from users who experienced USB related issues on AMD 500 series motherboards. Today the company announced that a fix is coming this April.

Apparently, this is a rare USB problem on 500 series MB (but it is a problem if one has it).

I have 3 AMD 500 series motherboards operational in the house (with R7-5800X, R5-5600X, R7-3800X). Just ordinary, everyday USB use. So far, no USB problems for those PCs.

TSMC makes AMD CPU and GPU chips.

TSMC's Research and Development Center in Baoshan Will Focus On the 3nm Process Node - Timetable For 2nm Plant Construction Is Uncertain Due to Pending Review

Interest in TSMC's 3nm process is at an all-time high owing to rumors in the market that Intel Corporation will contract the company for its next-generation processors. Owing to the complexities of chip fabrication, if historical patterns hold then TSMC's 3nm process is equal to Intel's 5nm process.

Its risky for the entire world to depend on one or two companies for the best/up-to-date CPUs, GPUS, etc. Hopefully, some advanced production facilities can be built in the USA, Europe, South America (for starters).

This also shows, yet again, that Intel fabrication in its own plants is well behind the state of the art. Intel competition with AMD and others to buy TSMC chips will raise our prices.

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) to launch this year for PCs

FidelityFX Super Resolution is one of the biggest AMD’s software initiatives

Scott Herkelman – CVP & GM at AMD Radeon – today confirmed that AMD’s super-resolution technology, the answer to NVIDIA DLSS is still in development but it AMD is aiming to launch it this year. He confirmed that the company still has a lot of work to do and it is still evaluating the actual technology behind the upscaling algorithm.

"It’s progressing very well internally in our lab, but it’s our commitment to the gaming community that it needs to be open that it needs to work across all things and game developers need to adopt it."

Interestingly it was mentioned that FSR may not actually be based on machine learning like NVIDIA DLSS is.

"You don’t need machine learning to do it, you can do this many different ways and we are evaluating many different ways. What matters the most to us is what game developers want to use because if at the end of the day it is just for us, we force people to do it, it is not a good outcome. We would rather say: gaming community, which one of these techniques would you rather see us implement so that this way it can be immediately spread across the industry and hopefully cross-platform."

The attachment shows the various game Resolution Enhancing techniques currently available or in development. AMD's method will be abbreviated FSR (as noted above).

TSMC (makes AMD chips) water problems may reduce production.

TSMC Signs Deal For More Than 100 Water Tankers As Taiwan Drought Expected To Worsen

The island did not experience any typhoons last year, and it is now feeling the brunt of this in the form of a water shortage that is depleting reservoirs in all of its regions.

[TSMC] daily [water] consumption could stand at 198,000 tons/day today.

Currently, companies operating in Hsinchu, Miaoli and Taichung have been required to cut their consumption by 11%. An 11% reduction for daily consumption of 200,000 tons translates into 20,000 tons - which is precisely the amount of water in a single tanker.

NVIDIA confirms it accidentally released a driver without RTX 3060 Ethereum hash rate limiter

NVIDIA has finally confirmed that the driver responsible for this situation was released inadvertently. NVIDIA has since removed the driver, but the damage has already been done.

AMD Will Not Even Consider Limiting Cryptocurrency Mining, Also Mentions Gamers Are At The Forefront Of GPU Development

The design of the RDNA 2 cards isn't as well suited for mining as cards from Nvidia. That doesn't mean that they can't be used for mining rather they have a slower hash rate.

[Nish Neelalojanan, a product manager at AMD] "First of all, RDNA was designed from the ground up for gaming and RDNA 2 doubles up on this. And what I mean by this is, Infinity Cache and a smaller bus width were carefully chosen to hit a very specific gaming hit rate. However, mining specifically enjoys, or scales with, higher bandwidth and bus width so there are going to be limitations from an architectural level for mining itself"

Realistically speaking, [AMD] developing a hash rate limiter as Nvidia did would be a waste of time and resources. Nvidia demonstrated the multitude of issues that comes with developing and implementing a hash rate limiter.

AMD Expected to Become TSMC's Second Largest Customer

AMD is gaining strength.

If AMD becomes TSMC's second-largest client, it will not only be able to negotiate more favorable financial terms with the foundry, but it will also be able to influence the development of TSMC's future process technologies, process recipes, and get access to the latest nodes faster.

In contrast, Nvidia is expected to decrease its share in TSMC's revenue to 5.8% this year.

Leaked Benchmarks Show Intel Rocket Lake Has Worse IPC Than AMD Zen 3, Comet Lake Refresh CPUs Tested Too

Benchmarks of Intel's upcoming Rocket Lake and Comet Lake Refresh CPUs have leaked out and what's interesting is that the newer 11th Gen lineup shows worse IPC than AMD's Ryzen 5000 line featuring the Zen 3 core architecture.

When it comes to comparison between the AMD Ryzen 5000 Zen 3 and the Intel 11th Gen Rocket Lake CPUs, the AMD lineup ends up offering 7.5% higher IPC than the new Cypress Cove cores. It shows that AMD will retain a good lead against Intel's upcoming lineup and Intel will once again have to rely on higher clocks to make up for the lower IPC versus the Zen 3 offerings. Intel is also going to use higher power limits on its top-of-the-line parts and even more aggressive clock boost technologies to up the game but that would definitely result in very high power consumption and temperatures as Intel themselves are setting the top-limit at 100C.

Leaks are not always accurate. But, for a while now, it has been obvious that Intel has been, in effect, "factory overclocking" its latest CPUs to maintain an easily understood/advertised "selling point".

Best CPUs for Gaming: March 2021

R7 5800X seems easy to find and R5 5600X is fairly easy to find at MSRP in our area ($450 and $300). I have one of each in operation as I type this.

As previously mentioned, R5 5600X single core is nearly equal to the 5800X -- so is the most cost effective up-to-date AMD gaming CPU at MSRP ($300).

The R5 3600 does the gaming job at $200-220, in my experience (I have one). Not maximum FPS but good/playable FPS.

I finally managed to score an XFX AMD QICK 319 6700 XT Ultra card... For like $800 + Tax and S&H. Nearly double the original MSRP, but amazingly less than $1000 - which is what most are going for! I've had this 295x2 for over 7 years, and it is really starting to show its age. sigh

I await the day my card of choice becomes available.

But, honestly, my current RX5700XT does the job at 4K ultra settings at acceptable (to me) framerates in games I currently play. So, waiting is less painful. And, its an indication your 6700XT will also do the job -- but better. smile

TSMC makes AMD's CPUs and GPUs.

TSMC to Invest $100 Billion in Fabs and R&D Over Next Three Years

The investments in advanced fabs will increase TSMC's lead over rivals and will ensure that the company introduces new fabrication technologies in a predictable cadence.

TSMC says that demand for chips is so high that it has been running its fabs at full load for about a year and supply is still falling short of the increased demand, which is why it needs additional fabs and new employees.

Leak, Guess, Speculation nominally based on limited information -- but interesting regarding AMD 5nm CPUs.

AMD Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” to feature 5nm Zen4 core and Navi2 graphics?

A missing piece in the AMD roadmap puzzle has been revealed.

[The Guess Is] the future Ryzen desktop series will feature integrated graphics. This would mean that owners of future Ryzen processors will no longer have to use discrete graphics.

There are still some questions in regard to the Zen3 fabrication node. It is either a refined 7nm or a new 6nm node.

AMD launches Ryzen 5000G “Cezanne” desktop CPUs with integrated graphics

AMD will not be launching Ryzen 5000G series for the DIY market anytime soon. The company announced that initially only pre-built systems will be equipped with Ryzen 5000G series.

AMD claims that its 8-core Ryzen 7 5700G will be up to 38% faster in content creation, 35% faster in productivity, and 80% in compute performance in comparison to Intel Core i7-10700 CPU codenamed Comet Lake-S.

The 6-core and 4-core Ryzen 5 5600G and Ryzen 3 5300G are being compared to Intel Core i5-10600 and Core i3-10300 respectively. AMD claims higher performance in all comparisons.

According to Guru3D, AMD promises to launch Ryzen 5000G series to the DIY market later this year, but no date has been provided.
