I know that the SimHQ crowd is an "older" crowd but I'm curious to see if age still translates in any way to buying habits when it comes to music, games movies and printed media. When was the last time you bought a PHYSICAL copy of the following?
1. A PC game
2. A music album
3. A movie or tv series
4. A magazine
5. A newspaper

For a while there I would pick up a DVD of an older movie I liked when they were in the discount bin. Got some good ones for $3 or so. Then as more and more people starting buying DVD's again the prices went up so I pretty much stopped. It's been a few years since I bought one. There is a little record shop by my house that is just like the record shops of the 80's and 90's. The prices are a bit high but I sometime will buy a CD or two. I still really like going into a place like that and browse while there is some good music playing. I really miss the old bookstore experience too. I could spend hours in those places. I used to have a choice of many around here, but Amazon killed that.

I forgot to answer my own questions. 1. A PC game - I bought Rise of Flight Iron Cross Edition on DVD in 2011. 2. A music album - I bought the soundtrack for "A Clockwork Orange" on CD about one year ago. 3. A movie or tv series - I bought a boxed bluray set of several films of Stanley Kubrick about 6 months ago. 4. Can't remember. I do remember however that my last magazine subscription was to National Geographic which I cancelled in 2007. 5. A newspaper - I can't remember with any certainty but I know it was definitely before 2010.

1) About a decade... I bought a physical switch game last year, though...
2) Fourteen years ago, but only because it was for our wedding. Otherwise, over twenty five years, because I'm boycotting the RIAA.
3) I have never bought a movie or TV series, ever. My wife has, though?
4) Twenty years almost
5) I used to get "Barron's" in print, daily, before I switched firms and went independent. I consume all my news online, otherwise I'd be buying 5 - 10 newspapers a day.

In all 5 cases its log enough ago that I don't remember. I'm going to have to say the same thing except I do know some of the answers, just not when exactly. Game - Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Album - Muse Black Holes and Revelations (2006). Movie/TV Show - Fistful of Dollars Collection or Series 1-8 of Red Dwarf. Magazine - No idea but probably a car mag like Autotrader around 2008. Newspaper - Always avoided like the plague.

I still receive a daily morning newspaper and keep a Car and Driver subscription, but that's mostly for my father. I might skim them the next day or read something he thinks I'd be interested in. Otherwise, I enjoy browsing Goodwills/thrifts for discarded technical books and 80's techno-thrillers (usually ~$1.00 paperbacks, ~$2.00 hardcovers). I'll also clothes shop while I'm there if it's a nice clean organized store. I'm kinda tight these days with my money anyway, saving and spending mostly on the house and romantic vacations (both being investments, IMO). I'm not inclined to purchase any of those media items anymore, physical or not, having no interest in most things new while feeling overwhelmed with what I already have.

1. A PC game Arma 3, about 2017 or so. A second copy, first was a Steam download only version. Bought it for a map. Probably my son's band's CD. Around 2016 or so. Hmm, Cloud Atlas or The Grand Budapest Hotel probably. I still receive Cinefex even now, if that can be counted as a magazine. Not since ~1986

1. A PC game - Maybe the last time was Stalker Call of Pripyat. I still play Stalker Call of Chernobyl but that is from a download.
2. A music album - Do cassettes count? If so, then yes. 2 of my four vehicles still have cassette players. Most of my cassettes are older than the vehicles themselves but I usually purchase a new cassette every time I'm on call which is 4 times a year.
3. A movie or tv series - Yes, "They Shall Never Grow Old" by Peter Jackson fro Christmas.
4. A magazine - Strategy and Tactics, Cook's Country and America's Test Kitchen on yearly subscriptions.
5. A newspaper - Pawleys Island Coastal Observer decades ago when it was Shabby not just Arrogant.
The road less traveled is filled with fewer needy people.

Item 1: No games on disc for years.
Item 2: We bought "tons" of Ballroom Dance Music disks in the deep past -- to support our BR Dance competition practice sessions in our ballroom. But, for a decade, nothing new.
Item 3: TV series came just yesterday (Smallville Season 1 -- i.e. Superboy). We prefer good TV series and movies on Blu-Ray disks, so far. Never watch on TV anymore.
Item 4: My wife reads some magazines. We're in the process of letting the subscriptions lapse.
Item 5: My wife reads the Newspaper and does the puzzles. I don't.

1. PC game--the last would have been Total War Attila from 2015. It was a special edition that included a free Osprey booklet on Attila that I got on Amazon. 2. Music album--at least 10 years probably 3. Movie DVD---either the Blu-ray edition of Barry Lyndon or the Blu-ray of 2010's True Grit---they both came out around the same time 4. Magazine---since I still belong to the NRA, I get the American Rifleman each month. 5. Haven't had a newspaper subscription in over 15 years. I do have a couple of online subscriptions to daily news services though.
Cheers
