The package from the GoG release of EAW1.28 includes some IPX material which is available elsewhere too.

The IPX files include two that put the IPX stuff in the registry. One version is for 32 bit systems, the other for 64 bit systems.
Once you apply the appropriate one and you run EAW from any folder on your PC you will see IPX as a choice when you select "Multiplayer".
You can try to select it, but you will be unsuccessful unless the other IPX files are in the folder that you are using.

You can play any version including GoG's / Retroism re-release of EAW which uses IPX / DirectPlay online at Kali.net

You just need to find 8 to 10 players to pay the one time fee of $20 dollars. It gives you a free account to setup and test play the game for a limited time.

You can play it at GameRanger which is free. We used Kali years ago but found that GameRanger was much better.

Does it play over IPX through DirectPlay on gameranger or just launches the game?

I cannot be sure- I need to test it with another player who has the GoG installation.

I have just flown the GoG version online with ShoGun at Gameranger. We got into the air OK, but as it was a test we did not bother to finish the mission

What is actually the advantage of IPX over TCP/IP?? Why did GoG dissable TCP/IP?

I bet they disabled it TCP/IP (and other protocols), most likely cause of the DirectX code they put in, maybe they needed more room.....

I wouldn't know of an advantage of IPX, only that it was designed more for faster connections than TCP at that time.
But They advertise LAN only game, but you can play online with it on Kali, and apparently, Gameranger.
