Ah, a classic. I always found myself rewatching it every year. It's about that time.

I got fired as the door man at a sperm bank.
Apparently it's in poor taste to tell leaving customers "Thanks for coming."

L'Etoile du Nord
.

I was stationed in England when this outstanding BBC series first aired, not but two miles from Old Warden and the farm that served as "St. Marie" in the series. I've no idea how many times during those years that I made the short hop over to Biggleswade to enjoy the fantastic Shuttleworth Collection. In fact, I've just now found the following random bit of film online from the October 1976 Flying Day, which was one of several I attended at that location. What are the odds, eh? And notice a familiar "Wings" plane there starting at the 7:50 mark?

Fantastic film Lou thanks for posting, that first aircraft was a strange one, half hangglider half aircraft, it could certainly fly though.

The Longhorn, trained many an ace that did.

Thanks again I enjoyed that.

"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."
