To start EAW, just right click the EAW.exe, and select "open"
I also have Nglide installed for Glide.

I tried that several times ,but Win10 is different, for some reason the dgvoodoo2 directx stuff wont work, it always seems to use the system files.

I've found another direct input dll, I have nothing to test it on but it should work the same or better than the supplied dinput.dll.
There is nothing to configure however, it just is placed by itself in the EAW main folder, and operates that way.

dinputto8 - (elishacloud) -
https://github.com/elishacloud/dinputto8
A dll module that is designed to improve compatibility in games using DirectInput 1-7 (dinput.dll) by converting all API calls to their equivalent DirectInput 8 (dinput8.dll) ones. This allows older games (like EAW) to be able to use newer tools and wrappers written for DirectInput 8.

I tried it and just like the GoG version its presence prevents the joystick from working in any version of EAW frown

Thats your stick, and probably alot of other standard sticks.

I think its for gamepads and HOTAS software that uses dx8 or newer. (and other dx8+ tools). Atleast thats how I understand it to be now.

Aw well.

So as far as the game exe being hacked, what tools do you think GoG (or whom ever) used to do the hacking in such a short time smile

AFAIK the 1.28 source code was never publicly released so I do not believe that it was obtained and modified.
In that case the only possibility is that the 1.28 exe from the public release was hacked.
I would imagine that companies like GoG have disassembly software in order to re-vamp old games, many of which may have no source code wink

This XML text is at the end of GOG's exe:

<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
<application xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v3">

<dpiAwareness xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SMI/2016/WindowsSettings">PerMonitor</dpiAwareness>
</windowsSettings>
</application>
</assembly>

and I researched it in Google, here's what turned up:

Perhaps it's of any use, smile

While longstanding EAW game developers might object to some of their work possibly have been used (and I respect that), having GOG introduce EAW, I believe, is a significant step forward towards keeping the game alive, which is something we all want.

By dint of EAW being available on GOG, there will likely be many folks trying it out. Possibly they will come here for advice on how to tweak their GOG game, and/or discover other alternatives..

I think this is a significant step forward. I hope MarkEAW is ready for the influx of questions, LOL

I think we all have that sentiment, RIBob. The code group's concern is that our original agreement in obtaining the code stipulated that we never make money off any work we do. Now someone is selling it, and that may be a violation of the agreement.

RIBOB, I have made changes to the site in response to the "questions" and issues that arose. Mostly it was just the controler issies, but there where a few other things.

GoG defiantly brought new blood to the table so to say. They even advanced us with there hack of of the un-official 1.28. So much so I was enthused. Since 128 contains bug fixes that a previous section of the community made a list of they wished would be fixed back in 2001.
The only draw back is those engine only hit bubbles.

I understand your comments and understand the possible (and legit) gripes from game developers. Still, I think that "GoG defiantly brought new blood to the table so to say." will be of long-term benefit to EAW. That's what we all seek.

Once folks come here, they can take advantage of what the game developers have offered. I think this will all work out, in the end, to the benefit of the Game Developers, and for the EAW community as a whole.

This will certainly make you modify some portions of your EAW Help Site. I hope I have assisted by asking stupid questions in the past, and so preparing you LOL All the Best, Mark!

The hit bubbles were modified because we had gun convergence in 1.28 wink

Who were they defying?

To be honest with the number of reviews of the product at GoG and the posts in the GoG EAW forum I am not sure that much GoG related new blood has arrived at SimHQ frown

I am still very annoyed that GoG released an edited version of our work without permission.

Maybe "definitely" rather than "defiantly"?

Perhaps we over-estimate the number of people who buy games that are interested in, even aware of, modding them. Anyway, it's great to see all the old blood that has been knocking around here recently!

A lot more people jumped on board , more so than the last 15 years has, and in a very short period of time.

I encourage players to get the Gog version when every I can. I'm thinking the hit bubble issue could be resolved with the exchange of FLT files.
Perhaps GoG will use just that, v1.2 hitbubles, then players will have more fun.
