The show will explore the warring kingdoms of feudal Japan when several powerful warlords fought to become absolute ruler.

Anyone watching this series?

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

I have not but I may check it out. Hopefully it's done in a scholarly serious way and not in a hyperbolized "History Channel" way.

I watched it a few days ago. The historical aspect of it was pretty good in that it covered the period from the rise of Oda Nobunaga as the first great unifier to the final conquest of the period by Tokugawa Iesau. However, like some of those low-budget historical series that the history channel used to do, it was obvious the production was limited in size and scope by trying to use a limited number of actors and extras to fill in for much larger groups of participants and events--especially the battles.

Much of the armor used was a mix of 17the century styles and the later 19th century Edo period. It was just a mish-mosh of whatever they could lay their hands on--I guess. None of the actors had their pates shaved as was the custom for Samurai of the period nor were the female nobility shown in white makeup. This just looked wrong and killed much of the immersion for me.

All in all, the history was basically correct, but for me, the painfully obvious limited budget production failed to really capture the look of Sengoku Jidai period. They did OK with what they had I guess.

It's still worth watching if you want to learn the history of the period. Just don't expect Akira Kurosawa levels of period authenticity.

Cheers

That's exactly the thought that ran through my mind when I watched the trailer. "I think I'll just watch Ran and Kagemusha again instead".

I've seen the first few episodes and now learned where much of the plot to Kagemusha came from. The history seems alright and it's a good place to start if you're not very familiar with the part of Japanese history.

Yup, "Kagemusha" is essentially about the twilight years and downfall of the Takeda clan which was instrumental in the earlier days of the Sengoku Jidai period until they got their clocks cleaned by Nobunaga.

Just thought I would add that one of the historians of the period used in the series was Dr, Stephen Turnbull who coincidentally was also the historical advisor to Creative Assembly for the Shogun Total War games.

Cheers

Ah, I didn't know that! I really hope and wish CA will someday make a TW: Shogun 3. I'd pay $100 for my Steam copy.

Just recently bought a Roku stick..Using the free stuff now and would like to add a paid one,,I don't want to add a ton of channels and end up no better than cable which I'm keeping but cutting the premium stuff except HBO which I like,,not a deep critic of movies just want to be entertained and also it gives me HBO+ but this one leads me to think it will be Netflix.
