That is a fair thought, but I posit this: If they're aware, themselves, through records of history, why have none of them manufactured simple machines or technologies to the degree that we have--even going so far as mastering survival in elemental realms our bodies were not born to live in, such as space, or the deep oceans, or the skies? Our awareness of reality has allowed us to aspire to greater things, rather than simply exist in comfort within the confines of our own kingdom.

Humanity may define its sophistication by how it dominates and manipulates its surrounding environment or through other measures of 'accomplishment.' Just because other cultures or species may not use the same definition, does not necessarily mean that none exist.

The very definition of life changes. Organisms once thought unable to live or exist are being found in deep mines or cracks in the crust at the bottom of the ocean. They live without oxygen, previously thought to be the base-line requirement for all life. As we learn more about life, why not find creatures that exist in pure electrical or gaseous form?

Why are viruses not superior to humanity? They have no need of mechanical ability, no record-keeping, no (known) sense of self-awareness, yet they perpetuate themselves over millenia by using nothing more than the basic building blocks of life.

Our definition of 'great things' can probably be challenged by other cultures, not to mention other potential intelligent species (terrestrial or otherwise.)

The way I see it, the rest of life on Earth are cogs in the clock tower, helping push the minute, second, and hour hands around the dial of time. Humans, on the other hand, receive these units of time as a currency of which they can accomplish great things, with the knowledge that both time and themselves exist within physical confines, and that the reflection in the mirror is their ageing selves.

If only we could discover life elsewhere, in any shape or form--a simple cell with a nucleus of DNA would be profound enough.

Those virii are following their prescribed algorithm. The protein inside of them turn like water wheels and slap the boards which release the tumblers, whom lead to action inside the cells they penetrate--cells unlocked by keys their genetic material helped create. They are beautiful Rube Goldberg machines, with our plants and algae and bacteria serving as terraformers that helped transform this world into the habitable environment that it has become.

Looking things up. Priceless.

Nice smug answer assuming that the one who linked the article didn't read it first. Unfortunately for you, he did.

Pat yourself on the back.

Oh no, I'm so sad. You're acting like a troll anyways, so this is for the best. Thanks for saving me time!

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.
