Yes but with a caveat. While sales of cassettes and especially vinyl have indeed had a resurgence in sales, both of them together only account for about 6% of the total consumer market so it's definitely a niche market. By far the largest segment of the consumer market is streaming and it continues to grow.

The very last pre-recorded audio cassette I bought was the soundtrack for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade back in 1990.

I remember having an 8 track player in my 1966 Chevy 3/4 ton `6 inch ranch tires. This was 1979. Had Boston , Go Goes, And many other great 8 Tracks.
Having evolved from the beginning of computers, Seen it all.
Now I embrace the MP3, no streaming services for music here.
My entire music collection is enormous, Found a good MP3 encoder years back and could get 256 bit rate end codes from it. Dozens of 4 gb portable HD`s with it on, I keep back ups in multiple places in case of theft or crash.
Both my vehicles are linked and stream to them. Through our phones blue tooth connections, Son talked me through it all and am amazed at the results.
My first Boom box looked a lot like that, Was a Toshiba bought in 1982 while living and working in Colorado.

Every time I read “8 Track” I immediately think about that hilarious episode of Beavis and Butthead where they destroy the entire 8 track collection of their hippy teacher.

I would never buy albums on cassette back in the day. I would get the album and record it on a TDK cassette then stow the album away.
Same here, other than also using other brands. Usually chrome tapes, some metal, mostly 90 min. (it was 120 min. that I recall not being so dependable).
I keep hoping that I come across a mix tape that I gave to my wife in 11th grade. I vaguely remember the songs on it as well as the few LPs I owned or had access to at the time, and that Van Halen's "Ice Cream Man" was the last song on Side-A, I think. I have an MP3 playlist which I believe is a reasonable match to that tape and I would love to verify it.

One of my favorite episodes ("Cleaning House" - 9/93)! I thought at the time how pathetic it was that Mr. Van Driessen was still living in the 60's/70's, never for a moment thinking that I could possibly one day be that guy!

I bought Boston on the ol' 8 track. To this day when I hear, "Hitch a Ride" and it gets to the instrumental part I expect to hear a fade-out, then the clunk of the player changing tracks and then the fade-in of the rest of the song, lol.
^ The two that come to my mind with changing tracks are in the middle of "Free Bird" (album: Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd...right as the song starts to jam) and "The Camera Eye" (album: Moving Pictures). I had both Boston and Don't Look Back on 8-track as well, two of my all-time favorite albums.

I distinctly remember my last boombox. It was a blue and silver colored Sony. I think I finally dumped it around 1992 or so.

Walking future wife to her car in HS parking lot (while carrying her books, of course). Let's see... Audiovox cassette head unit...meh, one notch above Kraco and Sparkomatic. Tancredi equalizer power booster...now we're talking. Audiovox Hi-Comp 6x9s mounted in rear deck (Malibu Classic coupe 350...just like in "Say Anything")...*very* good (only decent thing from Audiovox).
Hand-me-down family car, her older brother had added the stereo before moving on to an '81 Celica GT fastback. Quick glance at her cassette box (Alabama, Rick Springfield, Queen, Prince...no Van Halen or Rush [yet], but a good start).
I was taking the bus to school while this chick was already driving and loved music (and kind of loud, too). This could work.

Now we know for sure that NFB never used audio cassettes.

I can hear the 8 kHz with my right ear, but not my left. No-go on the others.

I'll speculate that some music lovers stick to the music of their youth, not just because of fond memory association (first kiss, third base, lost relatives), but because they've heard those songs so many times that they're burned into their brain which can compensate now for missing tones.

That plus the fact that only hardcore audophiles care about superior sound quality which you can get from vinyl and a high quality turntable and speaker setup. I have a feeling that VERY few of those consumers buying vinyl today are under the age of 40.
