I'm back with a faster CPU - an AMD Reizen 3500 which has six cores which WOFF doesn't use I am told. But I read that this processor has better single-core performance than most Intel stuff.

Anyway I wonder how to start again. I know that 1914 is pretty hopeless as not much happens. But what would you lot suggest? I want to fly a RFC aircraft - what aircraft would you suggest and when?

ps I'm not a good pilot at all nope

Hi Jim, and welcome back.

As far as aircraft recommendations go it really depends on what you want. If you want plenty of action. I'd suggest starting a career at the end of 1916 with 54 Squadron or in April 1917 with 66 Squadron both flying the Pup which is as docile and pilot friendly an aircraft as you'll find.

My actual suggestion if you are coming back to flight sims though is to spend some time creating quick missions. That way you can try out different aircraft and get used to the controls. You can also get used to the wonderful experience that is WOFF once more.

"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."

I'll suggest the campaign I'm currently flying. 11th RFC in 1916. You're based in Flanders, quite close to the frontlines. Do patrols/escorts/balloon busting and fly either Nieuport 16s with their top wing mounted MG, or the Bristol Scout which has a side mounted machinegun so you have that fun side to deal with. In terms of enemies it's mostly Eindeckers so not too bad. Should provide an okay challenge, not too hard not too easy, with enough activity.

I bet you do, too, Buddy."

Nice to see you back Jim. Lots of improvements since you were last here.

IHey Jim,

I'd Like to second Alberts approach. Use the quick mission Generator. Its Lots of fun.
I know its not british, but you might want to consider a different approach flying for France with the escadrille americaine, Better Knien as the escadrille Lafayette.
The region around Luxeuil IS so beautiful, and the air Activity is mild. This helps you survive a week or two. Not to forget the wonderful Niueports!
