I believe it is prior to v1.28 - but it has been a while. What's the best way to find out, considering I cannot launch it?

un plug the joystick and delete the eaw.ini file in the main root folder.

Then run eaw.exe.

The version will be on the main screen bottom left.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did that and got the dreaded 7217 error. (I'm on Win 10 x64 Pro). So, I ran eaw.exe in "Win 98 / Win ME compatibility mode" and got it to launch! It's v1.28e Fix04. What should I do to get it to the latest? And what can I do to get the joystick error to go away? I believe it's related to my Thrustmaster MFDs...

The so called dreaded 7217 is more so the fault of win10, not applying the compatibility layer it was suppose too when you first ran the game.
You should now not run eaw under any tab settings. (in other words deactivate the win98 mode).
Then Win10 will retain the correction for the 7217 error automatically, regardless.

I don't think your stick is compatible with eaw, but there's software out there that should help.
As for getting the latest version of the EAW game, I don't know what you want....some one else may tell you here...The actual latest is UAWv1.60, but
