To avoid further hijacking lima's thread, I thought I would branch off. Here's some more test runs of different aircraft. There's still a bit of weirdness at the beginning of each flight I would like to get rid of, like having to turn off the HUD. Maybe it's in a menu somewhere. Also, the joystick doesn't seem to respond until you move it past a certain zone, so that is why I am always wiggling around at the beginning. I also need to flatten out the curve near the center a little bit, as it is still very jumpy there and I am still ham-fisted as I try to get the muscle memory down.
The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...
"Once more unto ... " and all that. Also moving up to Veteran opponents now that I am (mostly) done fighting the controls. I still need to flatten out the center of the curve a bit as going from a push to a pull and back really jerks the nose on these modern flight sticks with a short throw and spring returns. I also (re)discovered the...er...awesome decision to have a single key stroke that permanently alters your default viewpoint when I hit F10 in a shadow-play related action. Twenty minutes of searching the web and my computer and a quick delete of the associated.svc or some such file later, I was back at it.
Anyway, I don't actually know much about the D VII, other than it is supposed to be wicked good, which was born out by my experience. I'm guessing it's got an automated mixture and radiator control as those controls didn't seem to have much impact as I was messing with them...

I know, right? I mean, the nerve of some people. Seriously, though, planes in RoF lose wings like Jedi lose hands...I'm going to have to check out that mod that VonS was talking about!

Gavagai's "reduced lethality" mod - works well with "improved gunnery" toggled on in the RoF in-sim menu. Then again, leaving improved gunnery off, with no reduced lethality mod installed - may give similar results. I recommend trying out a few of the combinations to see what works best. I think the RoF developers erred on the side of having more, rather than less, wings fly off to demonstrate the beauties of their damage model (sort of like in-game advertisement) - but sometimes it does get excessive. The improved gunnery option reduces gun dispersion by the way to more historical levels.
Happy flying, Von S
