From AO's three READ-ME's ============================================================================== README.TXT: ============================================================================== Attached is an ETO_01 Sounds Folderzip
The folder replaces the 'Sounds' folder that goes with the ETO_01 add-on.
You just replace the sounds folder in your EAW root with this one.
I have adjusted all sounds for DB level, and edited or replaced others, and
added some new.
All instructions and readmes are in the zip
AngleOff
============================================================================== Directions for assigning sounds readme.txt: ============================================================================== Directions for assigning sounds: --------------------------------------------------------
The sounds are already assigned for all the planes in ETO_01, (Early and late Europe, and early and late Russia.) but if you wish to use a different sound in the folder, place a text file in the planes/slotxxfm/plane-type folder named "PlaneSoundsxx.mpf" (With xx being the slot number.) with this info in it:
[EngineSounds] StartSound=182 RunSound=183
(or whatever the number of the sound file)
If there is already a PlaneSoundsxx.mpf file, just edit the startsound and runsound number to the sound number you prefer.
If you do not 'assign' a sound with a PlaneSoundsxx.mpf file, the plane will use the default sound for the slot.

No, he was looking for an improvement of the original readme, which was a little confusing, because it was written for a system which apparently was not implemented: The engine sounds are no longer specified from within the aircraft data file.
The sounds are now specified, depending upon what aircraft slot the sircraft is put into.
Here are the default aircraft types and the slot with sound file links
aircraft slot# start_sound run_sound
PL_P38H 0 SND0060.SND SND0061.SND PL_P38J 1 SND0062.SND SND0063.SND PL_P47C 2 SND0064.SND SND0065.SND PL_P47D 3 SND0066.SND SND0067.SND PL_P51B 4 SND0068.SND SND0069.SND PL_P51D 5 SND0070.SND SND0071.SND PL_B17 6 SND0072.SND SND0073.SND PL_B24 7 SND0074.SND SND0075.SND PL_B26 8 SND0076.SND SND0077.SND PL_HURR_MKI 9 SND0078.SND SND0079.SND PL_SPIT2A 10 SND0080.SND SND0081.SND PL_SPIT9 11 SND0082.SND SND0083.SND PL_SPIT14 12 SND0084.SND SND0085.SND PL_TYPHOON 13 SND0086.SND SND0087.SND PL_TEMPEST 14 SND0088.SND SND0089.SND PL_MOSQUITO 15 SND0090.SND SND0091.SND PL_ME109E4 16 SND0092.SND SND0093.SND PL_ME109G6 17 SND0094.SND SND0095.SND PL_ME109K4 18 SND0096.SND SND0097.SND PL_ME110C 19 SND0098.SND SND0099.SND PL_ME110G 20 SND0100.SND SND0101.SND PL_ME410 21 SND0102.SND SND0103.SND PL_FW190A8 22 SND0104.SND SND0105.SND PL_FW190D9 23 SND0106.SND SND0107.SND PL_ME262A 24 SND0108.SND SND0109.SND PL_JU88A4 25 SND0110.SND SND0111.SND PL_JU88C 26 SND0112.SND SND0113.SND PL_JU87 27 SND0114.SND SND0115.SND PL_HE111 28 SND0116.SND SND0117.SND PL_V1 29 SND0118.SND SND0119.SND
PLEASE NOTE: 1) Only the slot number and the sound files are relevent. 2) This work is based on the sound fixed files and includes the sound fixed files.
setup.c has been modified to force sound16.cdf to be used no matter whether 8 bit or 16 bit sound is selected.
A modified Sound16.cdf file is required with the new sounds matching the above sound numbers to be installed in the game. Seperate sound files will be picked up by the game from the EAW root directory should you want to swap different sounds for an aircraft slot.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________-
AN ADDITIONAL REDIRECTION MODE HAS BEEN ADDED.
It is now also possible to have (ONLY for engine) sound files also within a "sounds" folder in the EAW root directory.
The redirect file is a small sndXXXX.ini file
its format is:
FILE NAME snd0060.ini for the redirection of the snd0060.SND sound........snd0061.ini for the redirection of the snd0061.SND sound...etc
FILE STRUCTURE: [SoundSection] SoundFileNumber = up_to_4_didget_number
EG: If we want to redirect the P51D start sound (snd0068.SND) to a sound file in the "sounds" folder and to be called snd0123.SND
We make a snd0068.INI file saved in the EAW directory with the following entries.
[SoundSection] SoundFileNumber = 0123
***Just make sure that you do have a snd0123.SND file actually in the "sounds" folder. THIS WAY A SLOT SPECIFIC SET OF START AND RUN SOUND FILE *.ini FILES CAN BE LOADED WITH SLOT SPECIFIC SKINS AND ALL SHOULD BE EASY SAILING FOR "OAW"
SAMPLE: snd0089.ini This remapps the RUNNING sound for the TEMPEST to make it sound like the ME262 engine RUNNING sound.
I have this, along with it's soundfiles, included in both my original installs of 1.28 and 1.29. After several hours of trying to decipher what this meant: FILE STRUCTURE: [SoundSection] SoundFileNumber = up_to_4_didget_number I couldn't figure it out, as no permutations of the combonations of info did the trick. Then I re-read his original post that mentioned the newer version, and surmised that this was an outdated version of the system.

In the gog version it seems like some cockpits are messed up, for instance the mosquito seems to be stuck in the maximum zoom while in cockpit. There is no way to cam back. Also I noticed bombers are selectable but have no missions in campaign and stukas get assigned fighter missions. What a mess. What is the best version of EAW to play single player campaigns? I have tried several on here. most of them seem to have issues with bomber squadrons flying fighter cover which is suicide. I seem to remember back in the day, original EAW not having the issues of planes flying the wrong types of missions.

I have just checked my original version of 1.28 As far as I can remember the stock 1.2 files were used. Before 1.28 there was no version of EAW with flyable bombers being selectable from the aircraft selection screen Flyable versions of the bombers had to be added so that they could be selected using files that were available from what at the time was a very limited selection. There were no campaigns for bombers in 1.2, and none were added other than as tokens to avoid a CTD. They were never meant to be flown in careers. In fact nobody has released campaign files for the default ETO theatre since 1.28 was released. Campaign files for new theatres released after 1.28 such as SPAW do exist thanks to the writers:) I have tried several on here. most of them seem to have issues with bomber squadrons flying fighter cover which is suicide. I seem to remember back in the day, original EAW not having the issues of planes flying the wrong types of missions.
You claim to have tried several- could you give us more detail please

Sardaukar, welcome to EAW! There is a HUGE amount of stuff available for the game. There are two places to get the bulk of it. At the top of the first page of this forum is a link to Sandbagger, the original EAW archive, and then if you look at any post by MarkEAW he has a link to his fantastic archive in his signature, which includes quite a lot of tutorials as well as all of the latest releases from modders. Lastly, for the newest version of the game (1.60), look to one of Mr. Jelly's posts, his version has a great auto loading system that has many, many aircraft and scenarios. If you have ANY questions, just post in the forum and we'll be along to help you sort things out! Copy and paste these links to go to the sites I mentioned: Sandbaggers: http://www.thatoneplease.co/Tally-Ho/index.htmlMarkEAW's site: https://eaw.neocities.org/160 Downloads from Mr. Jelly https://www.facebook.com/groups/492829441612726/Cheers, Crashin' Jack Oh, by the way, my personal favorite campaign is Desert Air War, available at Sandbaggers and MarkEAW!

-Only IPX / LAN Play can be used (other modes and protocols removed). No TCP/IP ? If so that is very strange.

Oh, by the way, my personal favorite campaign is Desert Air War, available at Sandbaggers and MarkEAW! Also available in the 1.6 package, updated to "Mediterranean Theater" with a choice of about 130 different aircraft.

That's in the code. It could be hacked out, but to what end? Too much work to explain how to people?
