It's amazing what AI enhancement and colorization does for some of these old films. There were several shots towards the beginning where I though new footage had been spliced in, but on second inspection it is all original. Thanks for sharing ArisFuser!

That was cool! That's a pretty crazy plane anyway, though. Looks a bit like a D VIII grew into its late -forties dad-bod. Or so I've heard... *looks around*
The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...

A gem indeed! I don't know where I've seen a better job of film restoration, outside of "They shall not grow old."
Lots of little details stick out. First, the fragility of these pre-war aircraft. Second, how it only took two men to lift the engine. Third, the transitional phase of this aircraft: elevator in front, like the Wright's, but ailerons on the wings. Lastly, at 1:25 of the film, there is a young man looking back at the other technological marvel of the age -- a moving picture camera!
Hard to believe this was only 110 years ago.

Fantastic films ArisFuser thanks for sharing. Watching that second one as the aircraft struggles to gain any kind of height and then you look at how far things had developed only a few years later......remarkable.
The accident rate was horrendous of course which makes you wonder why people wanted to do it but these were the Ferrari's of their day.....the Harrier's of their day.
"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."
