That's my toy store. What do we do now? How am I gonna build that Skynet computer or Ava humanoid now?

I'm quite shocked that Fry's lasted that long.

As for hardware "toys", there's something called AMAZON, NEWEGG, etc.

Right - I was having a discussion about this with some other folks and I think the situation is that people who aren't looking for components to upgrade or build a PC just buy pre-packaged systems from Dell, HP, etc., through Amazon and whatnot, and anyone who wants components knows where to find them online for less, so the writing was on the wall for Fry's for a long time.

Unlike Radio Shack, it seems that Fry's took too long in becoming a mostly online presence. When it comes to electronics and computer hardware it just simply doesn't make sense anymore to have a brick & mortar model.

Alas, poor Fry's. I knew it, Horatio.

Used to live in the San Fernando Valley. There was a store in Woodland Hills that had an Alice in Wonderland theme and one near the Burbank Airport with an Alien (as in outer space, not "migrants") Invasion theme. The awning at the Burbank store was a flying saucer that had crashed into it. I bought my first TFT monitor there.

We got shafted in San Diego, as far as the theme setup is concerned. They took over a space that was originally Incredible Universe, which was a Radio Shack venture that failed (shocking, I know), and when Fry's took it over, they didn't really change anything, and it looked more like a warehouse than a retail store.

That's a shame, Athonon. My son was between 7 and 10 years old when I used to shop there. He loved the way the stores were done.

I am guilty of perpetuating the trend with buying things online, but I hate how real world stores are closing down. Sometimes you just want to actually SEE what you're buying, and sometimes you want the knowledge that a return/exchange can be done in a matter of hours, or even minutes depending on location.

Also, I REALLY don't like having a purchase over around $200 delivered to my door. I prefer doing that in person.

I do not like online buying electronics. What if it's broken? I also like to see and touch electronics before I buy.

Well NFB, keep on worshipping that whole "supply and demand" myth, that whole "free market" myth, and the entire capitalism myth.

All of that, that is "Freedom".

Just ask anyone in Texas with a $10k power bill how that worked out - and they mocked California, lol...

And now they want money from the Blue States!!! Yet AGAIN!

I looked them up. They have a limited presence (only 25 stores) mostly in the Northeast and some Mid-Western States.

If you have not been to one they are def worth a visit if you have one close or travel close to one.

I def wish I could have visited a Fry's frown

David, although Microcenter is 1/5th the size of a Fry's, I find them way way better in service and price. I haven't been in Fry's in more than a year. It used to be a weekly event. But years ago they tanked and looked like a K-Mart... unstocked shelves, empty store,
