Maybe I'm reaching here, but I think these qualify as sad songs (and I know OP is a fan)...

Movie version, missing Gomer Plye's "Surprise, surprise, surprise!"...

Pink Floyd - Nobody Home

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IC2HGTHkqnU

Roger Waters - The Gunner's Dream

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aC9rY4HeN6A

^ Technically a Pink Floyd song from The Final Cut, but this version is pretty cool, IMO.

Talk about "flash in the pan". It's interesting how Evanescence had that absolutely massive debut album but then faded pretty quickly into obscurity a couple of years later.

Yeah PM, I didn't even know they had a second album. Just wanted to point out that there are two versions of "My Immortal", the album (Fallen) version doesn't have the Rock ending like the video version above.

++++++++++

I want to add two more...

Was reminiscing with the Mrs. about our first of two teenage breakups, missing her while underage drinking (drinking age was 18 at the time) and listening to my Lynyrd Skynyrd 8-track, asking what were her saddest songs. Yeah, this is pretty sad...

Never heard this one before, but modern Country just isn't my type of music (I only know of the Brad Paisley song from his concerts)...

MarkG, Sarah Maclachan, What a song that is. Also the Evanscene, one of my favourites. Nice choices.

I've noticed that the Country Music genre has gone through just as many major stylistic changes as other genres have like Rock and Rap. Whether that's a bad thing or a good thing it depends on your perspective but the one certain thing is that all artforms change and evolve over time.

This is a music video of the title song to the movie "Gods and Generals". The movie sucked but the song was hauntingly good.

^ Whipper snappers??? Pffft. This thread starts right out of the gate in the mid-70's and you post something from...1984! Good song though, seems like yesterday. smile

The older classics like "Wildfire" I have in duplicate from all the "Singers and Songwriters" CD collections I purchased over the years.

EDIT: Speaking of which...

Use to use this song to put my son down for a nap when he was toddler. He loved it.

When my son was in grade 2, the teacher at end of the year, played a slide show of the kids over the year, doing all kinds of activities. Played to this song , it was all I could do to hold it together.
She was the best teacher he ever had, she loved the kids. She lived about 40 minutes from the school. When Jack's hockey team played in her town, she always came out, for years. Wonderful woman. Mrs. Bumstead. Jack came home first day of grade 2, we asked him his teachers name.... Mrs. Bumstick.

Kids man, you love them so much. And they really do grow up too fast.

Great song.
I don't think Klaus Meine gets enough credit for his vocals, so unique and great.
First Scorpions song I heard as a kid was Steamrock Fever, and the vocals hit me first..wow.

I hear you, my son is 25 now and living on his own back in MN while live in Spokane. He plans to come visit in May. Looking forward to it. Miss him so much.
