Today I wanna talk about KALE.
Kale is a nutrient-dense green leafy veggie that is easily prepared in the Kitchen.

Step 1: Place your kale in a deep fry pan
Step 2: While gently bending your arm, hold the pan over the trash bin and scrape the Kale into the trash.
Step 3: Proceed with "How to make Smash Burgers" instructions

Pro Tip: Lightly coat the fry pan with with avocado or olive oil, to help the Kale slide smoothly into the trash

Time Saving Tip: Remove Kale from fridge, and toss directly into trash.

Money Saving bonus Tip: When seeing the Wifey put Kale into the shopping cart, point out woman wearing a haute pair of shoes. While she is distracted looking at shoes, remove Kale and hide them behind the broccoli display

Lol.

Kale, like cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and all those other disgusting leafy and stalky vegetables, make me want to gag (carrots are edible but boring).

That is, until I oven roast them on a cookie sheet with a little olive or avocado oil, just enough to make the edges a slight brown crisp. Then they magically become something I honestly can't stop eating! Other recipes for cabbage (for example, and without frying like an egg roll) take it from worst to first. Mustard greens and beets are about the only things I've found to be non-fixable, but considering how good the others now taste, there has to be a way.

Hilarious !

My Mom used to love boiled cauliflower. The smell used to make me sick. I think it was a cheap food she had as a child of the depression.

Once years ago, Pizza Hut was the top purchaser of kale in America.

Yeah, I saw this on the History Channel food show we're talking about on the other thread. They had a multiple-choice quiz about it, and we both got it wrong (we picked cheese and something else, don't remember). But kale?

I always wondered - if I only eat animals that are herbivores, doesn't that really make me a vegetarian (once removed)?

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck.”

Time for a comedy break break from the comedy, I'll be the serious bad guy here... soapbox

You guys remember the Greaseman? He was a comedic shock radio guy a long time ago (maybe still is), someone I listened to regularly at my physical worst. He would joke that living on celery sticks and salads was no way to live. I agreed, and as a much healthier eater today, I still agree ("celery sticks", "salads" and "rabbit food" comes from ignorance of nutrition, was once there myself and still learning). Anyway, he romanticized how he wanted to die, killing over from a massive in his backyard while grilling holiday fat-burgers for his family.

Sounds like a great way to go. But unfortunately, modern medicine would give him a much better chance of surviving. Like having [unmanaged] diabetes, first the shots and then the amputations, whatever science it takes to keep you going (unless you refuse treatment and/or check out early on your own). If only it was like the old days when you would just go into an unrecoverable diabetic coma. Think you're bypassing dementia? Maybe, maybe not. Could just happen sooner.

I'm not so afraid of dying, I'm more afraid of not living...the way I want to.

Oven roasted kale is actually pretty good, unless you've tried it and think otherwise. Probably my least favorite of the oven roasted veggies I've listed above (along with radishes which are just...ok). But at least be open-minded enough to try it, dammit! biggrin Now, juicing? Nah, that's gross to me. No rigid diet either (I'm never doing keto or vegan or whatever). Wife agrees, it's just not us. We're Coonasses and we're gonna eat, and eat what we want (fortunately preferring seafood to red meat), we just eat the heavy stuff with much moderation. This includes our favorite fried seafood which we split if a huge portion, even saving some for later. Just try to find some healthier stuff (it might be oven roasted kale smile ) to eat with your steak and fried chicken.

I just want me and mine to be healthy. What's healthy? To me, healthy is getting an annual physical with comprehensive blood panel that's good enough to require zero medication. Wife has already done it (off statins) and I'm close to getting off BP meds (thinking this for years though, maybe my next physical?). This is what we strive for, and our diet is a major part of that. We're 53 and aging will eventually catch up with us, but we'll always try to keep meds to a minimum.

Of course, if you can pass a no-meds physical without 'eating all of your vegetables young man,' then good on ya. smile If I only knew back then what I know now, how to enjoy healthy eating.

Off soapbox Let the comedy continue... biggrin

MarkG, man I loved The Greaseman. So inventive and imaginative. Wide range of talents. Very off-color humor. But dang I loved him and his stories.

Lol. OG, I have some Greaseman recorded on cassette somewhere, along with a local Atlanta personality, David Paul. I once got to talk to Clark Howard at a book signing about what ever happened to David Paul who had worked at the same Atlanta AM station (WSB) at the time.

I bought a couple of his CDs. Great to listen to on a long drive. Unless I’m with the wife. His skit is just a little too sexual for her tastes.

Makes the hydraulics happy !
