Sad songs came up, and I always think of this one from my childhood. Recall hearing it in Dad's car, I think he had it on 8 track. Still makes me sad, probably more from nostalgia as Dad passed away in 1995 at the young age of 48.

Yeah, same era I believe. What is sadder than missing your dead dog ?
Shannon is gone, I hope she's drifting out to sea She always loved to swim away Maybe she'll find an island with a shaded tree Just like the one in our backyard
I always heard it as Shannon is gone I heard,.. not hope. Why would you hope she is drifting out to sea ?
I think my version is sadder, I thought Shannon drowned.

I feel lucky to have all that behind me now (my dad is 82 and a cool guy, also the only father my wife has ever known...hers died when she was 2, MIL never remarried).

Siegfried's Funeral March from "Die Gotterdammerung".

That’s a very poignant video and song by Queen. Good pick Mark.

There's some great live versions floating on the tube...
But the studio version is the bomb. The slide guitar by Eric...

I’m sure this one struck a chord with many Vietnam vets when it was first released,

OK, this one is kind of off beat. The day my Dad died, my boss walked up to me and said "I'm sorry, you have to go to the hospital" Everyone knew my Dad was dying. As I was driving this song came on, it was fairly new and I liked it. In my head I was rationalizing " my Boss didn't say he died, he might still be alive"....but I knew.. I was singing and crying my eyes out at the same time.
I've thought of several more that I'll save for later, when the thread starts fading into the sunset.
But on a personal note, this one (which was sad as hell at one point in my messed up teenage life) reminds me that it's ok to swallow your pride and admit that you sometimes make boneheaded mistakes, like breaking up with your only girlfriend because you weren't getting what you thought you should be. Then after a couple of days or so of zero contact, with this song playing in the background, you realize that you can no longer deny it...
"Oh #%&*$#, I'm hopelessly in love with this chick! What have I done?!" The good ones forgive and forget, I think (and many times over).
