I've just been running through all the development scenarios I have in my offline 1.6 setup, and took a load of screenies. Just a few which I particularly liked:

Carrier Air War 1944. Babelthaup Palau atoll

[Linked Image]

Battle of the Alpes 1940, with extended 640x400 map to include the south coast of France.

[Linked Image]

Kure atoll in the Midway theatre.

Let's have some more.

I never did like the effort to turn EAW into a WW I flight sim, splitting the efforts of a small group of modders. That said, I do like bi-planes and so I added a bunch of pre-WW II and early WW II models, all available in the 1.6 Aircraft_inventory, mostly in the DAW folder if you want to build your own sets, or use any of the early war planesets I included in the last 1.6 download:

Swordfish -

Gladiator -

Most, in not all of these come from the Jan Tuma page, except Moggy's Swordfish, of course. However, I fixed all of the rendering sequence issues before adding them to the inventory.

I also like biplanes. Jan Tuma was a one man plane factory. Very nice cleanup jobs Ray. Great to havethese planes all available.

I remembering going 15 rounds with that original Swordfish model in 2002 to try and get the rendering sequence somewhere near right. In the end it was "It'll do till something better comes along", and now it has! A bit like HMS Hermes.

I bow to the master of the piggyback element. I recall the first time I took a look at your aircraft carrier for the first edition of SPAW. After realizing it was made up of a couple of elements with as many as 70 piggybacks I thought "wow, there's another guy out there who get it, all that matters is how the thing looks in the game." And that's how the love affair started. biggrin

Anyhow, enough with the gushy stuff.

Here's about 1/2 of the functional floatplanes available in 1.6:
BMV138 -

SC-1

Sb2c -

Hurricane -

Obviously some of these never saw production but they were all proposed and in most cases a prototype was built and flown.

BTW, it was no simple thing to just add floats to existing models. Adding such huge pieces causes massive rending sequence problems only solved by the generous use of the aforementioned piggyback elements.

Love the seaplanes and float planes.

As far as modelling is concerned, I used to say to Flyright when we were doing the original mods by The Firm, the player doesn't care if the model is held together by spit and string, so long as it actually works in the game and looks okay.

Luckily we have slightly more sophisticated techniques now. The rendering sequence calculator for a start.

heh, yards of string and gallons of spit are my secret weapons.

True is, I rarely use the R/S calculator because it's a PITA. I'd rather muddle through by applying patches to the model. It's faster and as you say, the players don't know or care how it's done, just that it is done.

Mike, I'm considering adding a couple of ski planes to the Eastern front inventory.

It would work well in a what if Alaska Campaign . Think successful operation in 1942 and a a move on continental Alaska and on to Canada...
Float plane Zeros, Emily and Mavis flying boats, Gruman Duck, PBY, ski C-47/Dakota... Aircraft carriers, torpedo and dive bombers...

Awesome Mr. Jelly, I like the listing of the planes. And, for a second, I thought those were AT-ATs in the background of the camels. Cool you can target the guys !

Let's be honest; great as the camels might be, or even the ordering of the planes which Jel has already provided us through different methods, that water would add orders of magitude more immersion to EAW.

Thx SkyHigh,
Unfortunately I don't even have a copy of the SPAW130 Water Addon, but the same technique and water tile is in my Roys_seamlesswater_V2-17-2013.zip. It is within my rafroys_alladdons.zip The readme contains links to posts and more information. Here's a post link here: https://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3831870/roys-seamless-water-v2-modders-release I also applied to similar to Beachell Isles. As far as terrains, which I tried to emphasize years ago, sateliite terrain for EAW is the way to go because they are far superior to the 1980's -1990's era video game look most most of EAW terrain has.
