You know, you are there browsing your favorite channel when suddenly, something completely unrelated that you have absolutely NO INTEREST shows up , you click on it naively because..heh, why not ? and when you turn around for your now cold coffee its been 4 hours that you are watching, a plumber fixing bad jobs, people who cleans digusting houses, someone who make art out of paper look as if was real...etc

So true, its amazing the new AI youtube uses to track your viewing habits gets screwed by it dreaming up stuff you would not. And then get you to look at more.

I stumbled onto "Coding adventure" series of videos from contributer Sebastian Lague

Dude just makes planets, atmospheres, clouds, ecosystems, flocking algorithms etc. for fun.

Jet-washing, car valeting and drain clearing are but a few of the things that have taken me on a journey down the rabbit hole.

I've been watching a lot of the British Pathe' color documentaries about life in 1960's Britain. This one fascinated me due to the space exploration craze, the fact that all the hairdressers were men and you even see one of them smoking a cigar inside the hair salon!

I am constantly offered up videos I've already seen, and YouTube knows I've seen them because it presents them to me with the little thin red line at the bottom that shows your progress in the video.

Why would the algorithm do that?

Maybe they're ones you've seen, but ended before seeing 100% of it? I get offered videos I've partially seen quite often. Or maybe it's just a little dumb smile

This just came up yesterday, and it's old, but I think it is a great story:

Some of the most interesting videos (and genres) that I've watched have been things that randomly popped up and weren't related in any way that I could comprehend to my past viewing history.

Also some of the least interesting.

SALUTE TO ALL!

There are some that I may have clicked off of with mere seconds to go, but it still seems quite ridiculous that they want me to come back and finish watching.

Use to play a game against it. Would mark every suggested video with a dislike. And then go ahead reload. Worked for a while, Would only get few videos suggested and even then another reload and it start over
with stuff I never look at. Gave up trying.

Mine would when I recently checked out a bunch of videos where vintage tools and other mechanical implements are restored.

Fascinating and calming to watch aren't they?
Has inspired me to restore some tools and implements, but if footage of my efforts were on YT there would have to be an age-advisory warning, what with all the swearing and blood.

I've been watching some black rappers and the like reacting to AC/DC. Mainly 'Thunderstruck' featured.....and they are all excited and impressed by the energy of the band, the vastness and enthusiasm of the audience at the River Plate stadium.
that led me to some innovative and often bizarre AC/DC cover versions, featuring musical instruments ranging from cellos, bagpipes to children's, ending up with this talented shredder.
Surely this band and this tune in particular must be the most covered ever!

I started out once watching videos about Bigfoot and then ended up somehow watching Sean Connery interviews.

I've watched this 3 times now for several reasons. I absolutely love the narration in these old British Pathe mini-docs,

Sorry for reviving this old thread, but it seemed the most appropriate place for this. I'm not a Colbert fan, but I had YouTube bounce a video up and thought this update by James Taylor was funny.
