Thank god those that knew were getting into dry suits as fast possible, Rip to those without warning.
My father always feared this would happen on Lake Superior. He was a deck hand in the mid 50s and mentioned storms he rode out that crew quarters were in the rear of the ship. Navigation and galley up front. Hooking up the life line to run the gauntlet back forth was timing nightmare. And when you would loose sight of the other end in a wave, wonder to yourself if this it and submarine to the bottom. He would tell this story to the Boy Scout troop he had, And many went home never wanting to never visit the Lake.
I'm shocked that such an evidently well maintained vessel could suffer a major structural failure.
During some the storms my dad out out on made in 1920`s Ore freighter they had to do ballast checks and watched the hull flex like it was made of butter. Scared the sh!t out him he said. Snap in half in the belly of the beast. No thanks. No radios back then in the 50s Personal communication was tough to find and expensive. Didi not even have intercoms Only pilot house to engine room controls.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

[Re: Blade_RJ]
Many of the old boats I ran in the gulf were as old or even older than that ship.
That video was taken 8 years before she sank!
I have seen, more than once and against my advice, guys take a small chipping hammer to a small rust bubble on the inside of an engine room... and then watched as water started pouring in. Yet the Coast Guard kept passing them.
