Check out these rumored features:

Sport Exhausts- Sounds like a cross between a roulette wheel and a sewing machine, with a megaphone exhaust speaker

Net Nanny- Monitors everything about car, including driver violations. Writes the ticket, finds you guilty and collects the fine from your account.

Claims to reach 0-60 in under thirty seconds!

Options include a hatchback mounted placard printer and a trail mix dispenser.

Friend drives a Prius. He gave me a ride home from work 3 years ago when my car was under repair. A 16 minutes highway ride or 22 minutes normal streets ride turn into 1 hour. It was traffic on the highway so he took the streets. He never drove faster than 30-35 miles per hour. He took his foot off the gas halfway before each light and let the car slow down on its own, sometime as far as one mile away from the light, braking at last second. Other cars were passing us and blowing their horns and I am sure we got a few fingers. When the light changes to green, he very lightly push on the gas and by the time the car started moving, the light is changing yellow to red. On the dash it shows the miles per gallon. He drives like that cos he wants it to constantly show 58 miles per gallon. That's also why he would not get on the highway in the start and stop traffic jam, it ruin the gas mileage. We all spend ton of time in our cars in our life. He spend two to three times that time in his car, driving like that.

I got stuck this AM behind one of those Prius Eco-Terrorists...for like 10 minutes, which motivated me to write this.

Finally could get by her, so I grabbed some old mask off the floor and put it over my eyes (could still see enough) as I passed while waiving.

Turned quick, laughing my butt off.

When my friend started slowing down 1/2 mile ahead without braking, other vehicles almost hit us from behind. He also is on the left lane which I am sure is p everyone off.

Now if I see a Prius, I make sure I am not behind it and I will pass it by as soon as I can.

Don’t know what the big deal is, the Priuses here blend in well with the other cars in traffic. Maybe there is a more specific demographic that buys the Prius in the US?

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Bingo. Prius owners tend to be politically left-leaning Millennials or younger people. You won't see many Priuses in Texas or Alabama for example. wink

What is the big hurry only having to come to a stop?

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Naunton Beauchamp Worcestershi...
A mate of mine had one of the first models featuring a consumption monitor system. Back in the 1980s this was just red/green/amber analogue.
He drove as NFB described, steady 56mph on the motorway which is dangerous in my opinion (70mph limit), and gentle on the accelerator as though it had eggs underneath it. Made us late and disqualified from an important Fencing Tournament.
A few months later he was so obsessed with watching the lights, he rear-ended a bus, which probably cost him considerably more than his frugal ways saving on petrol!

That's the thing. In Norway, the 'other cars' Semmern mentions are all Teslas, so anyone seen driving a gas guzzling prius is the equivalent of a F-350 (with machine gun mounted in the truck bed) driver in the USA. wink

Not me! When I was still working (2014) we sold electric mopeds (Yamaha EC-03) but you couldn't give them away. It was the same for the local Peugeot dealer with their electric offerings. Maybe things have changed since. I think the percentage of cars in the UK that are pure electric is only around 5-8%.

Actually, considering the mileage I do now an electric car would be very suitable. Unfortunately I can't afford one. Guess I'll stick to my polluting diesel.

For the price of a high end Porsche Taycan, one could buy a maxed out new Corvette, an F-250 and a maxed new Bronco when they pop soon.

and then make a decent down payment on a house with the change.

I want a Porsche Carrera with the big fin on the rear but not a white one. White is boring.

Electric cars are tax excempt here, which makes a loaded Tesla Model S cost about the same as a Volvo XC90. If horsepower was taxed the same on EVs as on gas guzzlers here, a Tesla would be up there with an AMG S-class in price. That, and EVs get either free passes or discounts om toll roads, and until last year they could charge for free in the cities. No wonder people buy them, but as soon as the incentives disappear, I bet we will see a resurgence in sales of hybrids or straight ICEs. A hybrid, even though it is heavier than the same car with just a petrol or diesel engine, makes sense as long as it has got 30-40 mile range on electric power only. With that, most people can drive to work and into town on battery, and save the pollution that comes with hanging about in traffic with an idling engine.

I drive a 2018 Subaru Outback, which is great for longer trips, and has lots of space for kid, dog and wife, and my wife drives a first-generation Nissan Leaf. We’d love a small EV with more range for her, though, since we can’t charge in our garage (which is in a garage complex so we can’t just upgrade the wiring and fuses by ourself).

NFB, I once drove a car that looked similar to that Carrera on a regular basis for about 6 months, although it was an earlier 80's model.

This was late-1988/89, company car, I ran almost daily errands in it when the MB 300E wasn't available (Atlanta Engineering Co., car and co. owned by Reginald Landers...1400 Lake Hearn Dr...Cox bldg.).

What I remember...

- brown on tan (the smell of leather bested only by the smell of heated oil from the rear...a good thing, along with incredible mechanical whines).
- flared rear end with whale tail (like pic, also not a turbo).
- gold BBS wheels.
- super-stiff clutch and shifter that provided a workout in traffic.
- sunroof.
- car phone and CD player (very big deal at the time).
- 2 CDs: Mötley Crüe's "Dr. Feelgood" and Edie Brickell & New Bohemians' "Shooting Rubberbands At The Stars".

EDIT:
- Directional radar detector (Valentine One?).

Boss trusted me enough to keep it over the weekend the first time my wife came to visit me in Atlanta (married in Jan., moved to GA in Sep. for work (she stayed to finish college...senior year), and this was around Thanksgiving, I believe. I meet her at the gate at Hartsfield, we walk out to the parking lot and she's expecting our '87 Dodge Colt E (Mitsubishi Mirage). Nope, gotta Porsche, baby! But...uh...just for the weekend. Really good weekend that was though. Really fun car.

I forgot the radar detector which was also a big deal because it cost so much compared to cheaper ones at the time (maybe a Valentine One or some predecessor?).
