So i am on a bit of a retro kick and want to buy some of those old PC sims I either had or wanted, the big box, chunky manual versions, so I am willing to buy the games but only if i know they work so I am getting ISOs from abandonware sites to try before i buy.

Now, Janes Fighters Anthology, Longbow 2 and F-15 installed fine but the later games, F/A-18 and USAF wont even launch the setup.exe, a bit of research seems to indicate I am out of luck if I cant use an earlier version of windows. Setting compatability didnt help. seems late 90's and early 00's windows games are the worst to get running.

If anyone knows how to get this working on recent versions of Win10 or has an installed game folder I can borrow please let me know. I did look in the FAQ above but the link for the install/reinstall guide is broken for me

In my experience with running those installers from older games sometimes they seem to hang, you run that setup.exe and nothing happens. But if you open your task manager, go to details tab and find that setup.exe process, right click it and select "analyze wait chain" it will pop up a window which will show you that most likely other app is blocking it from running, you can close that blocking process and the setup.exe should run fine after that. I had this problem with Gunship! installer being blocked by some nVidia app (probably the one which tries to gather info about games to optimize).

they are the worst to get running but you can install them on windows 10, i have them both installed - are you getting any error messages when you try the setup.exe files? trying selecting to install from the autorun screen instead, if you get a message saying uninstallshield is already in use then you just need to delete the IsUninst.exe in the windows folder as it gets created whenever installshiedl is run and sometimes is leftover still and then that blocks new installer attempts.

once you them installed, there is a whole subforum on Janes USAF and for Janes Fa-18 I think people have found some workarounds here and there, but for me it has been to applie the TSH mod and run the game through Dxwnd, and then i have gotten the game to be stable enough to play

I get the menus but not the sim itself. Did you accept the default DxWnd JF18 config or make your own?

These guys got the game running for me in Win10 but I am still suffering from the AA mode slowdown which makes the game unplayable frown
