I may just get it because it's been a long time since I've played the first three ME games. Do you know if this will be on Steam or ONLY on Origin? If it's only on Origin then I'll most likely skip it. it will be on steam, aparently it is out there already for pre orders, but it WILL require origins instaled, unlike their new games that dont, also this doesnt come with multiplayer and its 60 quid for a texture sharp job

Wish they would do this for KOTR . . . for that, I would pay $60 for a texture sharpen . . . Heck, I'd pay 80 bucks or more if the original KOTOR was re-done with current DX 12 graphics. KOTOR was the very first RPG I ever played.

I have all three games (and Andromeda). I restarted them at #1 a couple (?) months ago. I stopped to await this graphical update. I've stopped or not bought a few games recently to wait (and wait and wait) to get my RX6800XT.
FWIW: From what I read today, they brought #1 and #2 up to the visual standards of #3 (changes to #3 were small) -- i.e. my RX5700XT could play at 4K. They made a small number of logical gameplay adjustments.
But, the intent was to leave the story line and encounters alone -- just better graphics. There is an ME #4 in development (Andromeda not withstanding).

I pre-ordered it. ~$50 from Steam (got credit for owning ME3).
By the way, its not just a retexture, they say. They say all visual/audio aspects including 3D models were brought up to current 4K standards (however they did not use a new game engine to do it).

I'm curious to know if they have things that a good remaster has like more graphics options, quality of life fixes, controller tweaks, fov and camera settings and so forth. I got the impression (from reading what little was said) they headed in the direction you just described. I won't know 'till I get it. They indicated, its all about a "better game environment for the player" with zero change to the plot. Also, they make it easy to carry over the same hero/heroine from one game to the next -- graphically and story wise. The hero/heroine 3D model and graphics were mentioned as improved -- same standard through all 3 games. Like you, my plays\replays use a lot of Mass Effect Nexus graphics mods. I already run at 4K using the mods. So, it will be interesting how much (or how little) difference I see. It's worth $50 to me to get the "consolidated" package as I will be spending well over 100 hrs with it -- maybe over 200hrs. In all my playing of the 4 current ME games, I only finished ME1. That's me. I grind until I'm "worn out with grinding". I tentatively plan try harder and get through to the end this time. We'll see. EDIT: Add link to descriptive article. Descriptive Article

You really should play the entire trilogy because in my opinion what makes Mass Effect so special is the story and the character interactions. The combat/gunplay is fun but it's the same stuff we've seen in countless other games.

I haven't finished ME 2 yet. People say that's the best one but I have a hard time getting interested in it. It seems like the storyline and the character interactions have failed to grab you. Would that be accurate to say?

One issue for me: The "Reveal Trailor" (see Blade_RJ post) shows a lot of "fog" in outer space and other odd places. Such fog turns me off -- heck, space ships depend on no particles out there. Most of the fog seems for "visual effect" rather than realism (I like realism).
I just got through self modding Fallout NV to get rid of all the artificial fog and excess sandstorms. Might I have to do that with the ME remake??

I played Mass Effect 1 through 3. I don't rate it quite so highly as others might. Not a bad series, has some cool aspects. By the time Andromeda released I just decided to skip it. Mass Effect 2 was my favorite of the others.
Characters and interaction/relationships are neatly handled, combat's clunky.

As for Andromeda, I liked it enough that I played through it twice but I will say that the main storyline and characters were not as interesting compared to the previous three games.

Understood. So what about the aliens, faster than light speed travel and laser weapons in the ME games? By my "off the cuff" calculations, Aliens should be out there living on their own worlds -- but intelligent versions would be very, very rare. Faster than light -- who knows -- no reason to "believe in it", yet. I often said, give me 100 years and the cash and I could get it done -- only IF its possible. Lasers are a "done deal" -- in a minor way so far. Hard to beat the efficiency of a fired bullet or exploding missile for destructiveness per pound. Meantime, no ME type games without those things The long read linked above indicates combat improvements for the player -- without changing the plot.

It's been a very long time since I played it, but I still recall how much I hated that stupid Mako in ME1. That thing sucked But the way friendships and romances are handled is redeeming. I don't know if this makes any sense, but I see Mass Effect as a great series to experience, but less so to actually play.

I know exactly what you mean. A sort of interactive movie that really draws you in. As for the combat, I really do enjoy it but it just simply takes a while to get used to because like you said it can be clunky. I found myself struggling and fumbling around with the key and mouse commands for a while until my brain rewired itself and then I was fine.
