Wanted to do a sunset to night flight. Took about 15 photos, but only a few came out good. Using my iPhone and flying at the same time doesn’t always give good results. Taxiing out. Climbing out and adjusting the lighting. Sunset and city below. I don’t know why I am unable to get the photos to show. Used to just be able to use Photobucket image link, but now it doesn’t work. Tried to use the SimHQ photo attach, but no luck. Things have changed. I hate change. Edit - thanks to Forward Observer I fixed it.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Thanks Forward Observer. I guess it used to do that straight from Photobucket, but doesn’t now. But now that you showed me how, it isn’t a problem.

Panzer, it is Spring Hill, Florida.
RSC, no IFR isn’t required. The Private Pilot License (PPL) covers flying at night as long as it is still VFR conditions. But to carry any passengers you have to be current. That is what I was doing last night. Taxied and took off just at sunset and climbed back to the sun, then watched it set again from the air. Then I flew a bit and returned to the field to do the required three landings and takeoffs in full dark. So I put it in my logbook so I am now current to fly passengers. A Light Sport pilots license doesn’t allow night flying.
Flying at night is both better and worse than flying during the day. The winds are usually lighter and the air less turbulent. Very serene. Actually easier to see other aircraft because of lights and strobes. Navigation can be easier or harder depending on where you are flying to. Cities are actually more noticeable at night. But harder to pick out other waypoints. With the proliferation of lighting everything, it is actually pretty hard to pick out airfield lighting. Your brain starts to know what to look for.
But two things make night flying more dangerous. You can’t see developing weather as well and it is easier to get into IFR conditions. The other is emergency landings. Unlike the day you can’t see good alternative emergency landing spots. The ground below is just black with lights; no detail. The joke is if doing an emergency night landing you turn on your taxi and landing lights as you round out your approach. If you don’t like what you see, turn them back off.

MarkG, yes indeed. It is very cool to watch the sun set, then takeoff, gain altitude, and watch it set again.
I will fly down the coast and get some shots of the coast looking in toward Tampa Bay. It is a wonderful sight.

Thanks for allowing us to glimpse your glorious day - we're all better for it, as flying is good for one's soul!

Great shots! VFR at night is always beautiful. Often very calm air and less air traffic.
Nice red cockpit lighting in your plane.
So you don’t need a VFR Night addition to your license? Here in EASA-land it is a five-hour extra rating on your license.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Very nice pictures OG. On #2 you seem to be passing Lake Banana heading out towards Pine Island? Nightflying in smooth air is wonderful. Used to do that a lot when I was a flying club member. No GPS, but making an operating flight plan and compute the trip right was very enjoyable.

Wigean, never heard of Banana Lake. But yes, I overflew Pine Island. It is a pretty visible checkpoint on the coast here.
How did you know about it ? It is not well known other than locally. When I take young people up, it is usually on my route since they like seeing where they swim and beach from above.
