OBD Software is pleased to present Wings Over Flanders Fields Between Heaven & Hell II
Preview #1 movie
(Best viewed in full screen, HD of course)
Note This shows just a few of the changes of course, there are many other new features in the campaign engine, AI and more that are not easily shown here. We will try to show some of that later I hope.
Edit: Apart from the obvious new graphic content such as the new complex pilot head movements, new goggles effects and so on, it shows completely revised scenery/terrain in all seasons, new towns and villages and new layouts, shows one of the many new A.I. features (for example here formation flying with the AI in the wind to trying to hold formation) the newly updated SE5a, updated Be2 series, new inline engine animations external and internal, new improved blurred rotary engines etc, also shown is new crash landing abilities due to the new damageable gear...

Whoa! Ask, and ye shall receive! Do we have a drooling over the keyboard smiley?
Absolutely stunning, Pol! Everything looks gorgeous! The animations are looking really good, particularly the shaking of the flight stick and even the whole aircraft, which makes the fragility of these early aeroplanes stand out even more. I also see that you have upgraded the damage model. Love the EII losing its undercarriage! I'm sure there are several other effects that I have missed.
If I may offer one tiny little observation though: although I like the water droplets on goggles effect, I suggest making the water droplets just a little smaller. Of course, I am looking at just one short video, and others may differ in their opinion, but I thought I might point that out.
With that aside, I am delighted with how gorgeous everything is. I also can't wait to find out what has changed "under the hood." Great work!
“With Major Lawrence, mercy is a passion. With me it is merely good manners. You may judge which motive is the more reliable.”
Thanks, we did have the drops smaller but actually the goggles glass is a very small area, and your eyes are right next to it, so probably about right. We may also allow the other version we had with small drops as an alternative.
The most immersive WOFF yet, by far. So many wonderful effects and as you say, Pol. We will really have to wait to see the AI in action for all the immersion that will add to it. Beautiful work. Alternative raindrops are cool but I think you are right about the goggles being so close to your face and the glass so small. I can't wait to fly it. Credit card is locked and loaded. Thanks for releasing the preview!
Ouch! Bullet to the goggles. That will smart later! Oh yes! Looking fantastic and I’m not even flying it. Now, how many sick days do I have left when this thing finally gets released?
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Wow, the vibrations really have a big effect! I was secretly hoping to see the Lewis gun reload, but that was awesome nonetheless! You may want to have a chat with YouTube, however, as they identify the game as Rise of Flight!
The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...

BHAH II sure is looking swell gents'. I particularly like the Eindecker crash-landing with missing gear assembly (will be a treat for early-war scenarios). And that Tripe looks great too, coming in for a landing with those vibrations and oscillations in the cockpit - will be an exciting handful to control. Looking forward to all of this - take your time OBD and make it as shiny as possible.

Pol, as someone who wears glasses, the water droplets effect you are using is spot on.
Also great video, I can't wait to see the finished article and see what else has been added to flesh out the sim i.e. new aircraft to flesh out some of the gaps in squadrons.
Now that we have seen this video can we take it the rest of the sim is complete and will be ready to purchase in - 2 weeks.

Overall, looks great! That gearless Fokker belly-landing was cool. Thanks for the vid!
1. To the "you're busy enough, don't make a preview vid" crowd: If the Devs had listened to you, we wouldn't have this preview vid. So, when the cry arises eventually for another, just zip it. The Devs aren't helpless victims of their own endeavors. They are aware of what they can or cannot do.
2. Constructive criticism: German tent hangars did not have crosses on them. Such markings would be for self-identification, and the German pilots knew where their airfields were. (So did the Brits, but that's besides the point.) I can't say a tent hangar somewhere never did have one--there are exceptions to everything--but in the hundreds of airfield-based photos I have from up and down the front, there isn't a single one. Their presence in WOFF is too ahistorical and gamey. A bit of rivet-counting, granted.

Well it doesn't seem the comment was too far of the mark Jim! Pol had to suspend his dev work in order to get the vid out!
Best Regards

I just did the movie rather than developing for a while so my work will finish a bit later.
Well worth it. It looks terrific. I particularly like the head movements. Makes the pilots seem real.

I have a nephew who was born on Groundhog Day (2/2 for those outside USA). While she was still expecting, I joked with my sister-in-law, that he'd come out, see his shadow, and go back in for another 6 weeks. I suppose the work on BH&H-II might do the same thing .

Thanks, yes it makes a big difference. Heads moved a little before but was only fixed to movement of the aircraft. Now they are much more alive - checking instruments at certain times, on take off etc, looking around more. Observers are also looking in their own way scanning more looking up more etc it's all much more alive

Imagine the shock . I can imagine a popping sound as it shoots back in. I hope BH&H2 doesn't need popping back in when it's out!
I'm out of Flightsiming since maybe 2 Years, but always had an eye on the WoFF Forums. Can't wait for WoFF II , ready to jump back into the Pilots seat again!
Ok I moved chat about what isn't or is not in WOFF or other sims to a new thread. Please keep on topic guys thanks. See "Nothing to do with Movie thread" if you wish to carry that conversation on please.
Gotta say I really love the goggle effects. Not just the cool raindrops or cracked glass but even just the dark rounding of the edges of the screen. Couple that with the animated engines and shaking cockpits on takeoff, not to mention the other pilots heads looking around, and it's just an amazing new amount of immersion all added in at once. Not sure I will ever be able to go back once I try it.
Question about the head turning. I know the AI scan the sky instead of having a 360 degree view. Is the head turning at all synced to the area of the sky being scanned? Meaning if I see he's looking away, do I have slightly better chances to make a surprise attack on an enemy aircraft? Not actually expecting that but just figured I'd ask.
Thanks Todd, all those things really adds a lot. We have small touches like they may look down at instruments from time to time, or if they are injured they reduce scanning activity and their head may slowly drop down.
Plus the stuff we have only briefly mentioned so far - the new cool AI features too all really adds. Like the new ability to handle air turbulence or AI pilots that may give up on you and head home, but turn back at some point to re-engage if you persist and go after them. AI that are checking more and scanning more so they won't always just continue on. Gunner's "parking" their guns after a fight back to central position. AI not climbing to get to an enemy who is miles above, AI that do not chase a stricken aircraft for a long while they will usually judge how badly damaged you are and leave you to your fate (not always) and so on.
I think I'll leave that scanning as a mystery for the moment until you can try it.
The new effects look brilliant, the rain on the goggles, the tracer fire, the shattered glass and the engine and pilot movement.
It's all going to add to the in-flight immersion levels a lot.
Can you confirm if the issues with the medals (particularly the German ones) have been corrected Pol? That would add to the immersion levels too.
Cheers
Albert
"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."
Thanks, I don't believe medals themselves have changed but it will be harder to get promotions and some medals. A list of all items new or changed (that we can remember!) There's a fair number of items in the WOFF BH&H2 thread (Was WOFF2021 Thread) but a full list will be published nearer release of course. I'd rather not turn this into what is not in the sim thread again.
Thanks for the update Pol, my thinking was simply to get a little preview on stuff you'd never see in your videos, but yes any future questions I'll put in the BH&H2 thread.
The medals themselves certainly don't need updating they look great and I like the write up's you get for each one. It's just the order the German ones are awarded in which needs updating.
Harder promotion rates and medal awarding would be most welcome, it's always been a difficult nut to crack going back to Red Baron II days, through IL2 and now here. So if you've found a way to make it work better then great.
Cheers
Albert

Been away for a while, wow wow and wow, what a pleasant surprise to have a nosy back on the forum and watch the video. Incredible guys, I’m still gobsmacked at what both you and WM continue to pull out of the hat regarding WOFF Pol.
The pilot animations, the scenery the replacement of drums etc just add a new dimension of atmosphere. There’s 2 dev teams that’ll always support and OBD is one of them. Hopefully for both ourselves and you 2 at OBD a release isn’t too long in coming. Maybe a weeks break after and then you can crack on with WOTR ..only kidding guys
All the best Pol, can’t wait to fire WOFF BHAH II (love the name) up. Hope everyone here on the forum is well Best regards Adger.

Welcome back Adger, it has been a while mate.
Yes the new video showcases several of the upcoming improvements very well indeed and I can't wait to find out more and play the finished version. Hopefully it won't be long now, my guess would be.....two weeks

Haha cheers Albert, yep it’s looking good mate isn’t it. These lads at OBD never fail to impress me with what they come up with.
Would be nice, also I’d like 2 weeks notice so I can tell my gaffer I’m requiring a holiday
Hope you’re well mate and still flying

Adger... good to see you old chap! I assume you have been back in Blighty training up all the new sprogs, had enough eh? You must have missed getting up at 4am, quick cup of cocoa, then up over the lines, freezing your nadgers off at 12,000ft, trying to catch a hun two seater. I know, you volunteered to come back and snaffle a new suitcase full of medals See you in the mess...

Yeah I remember Olham from the olden times. God was it P3 or before? He was a very active chap on the forums here and the old one. An Albatros fanatic with a maniacal laugh. I wonder what he's up to? People do suffer burn out though. We've all been there. It's only the pills and hunger that keep Pol going.
I join the rest of you- Olham was a wonderful human being, very helpful and very pleasant. Gave a great recipe for his favorite Christmas Bake, I believe it was a bread called Berliner Mandelbrot. Set up a WOFF Pilot's map, offered to 'shop my actual picture into a WWI photo for an avatar (as his was). There are people that make a place pleasant, and he was one of them. I miss him, Prodigious post count!
But that movie! Holy smokes, my credit card almost made my whole wallet jump out of my back pocket! DO WANT! Retirement is coming , I wanna get back in the (virtual) air!
