Some pics from the final mission im my recent Red Army tank campaign in Steel Fury. The campaign closely follows the events of the Second Battle of Kharkov in May 1942. Counterattacking Soviet forces were was cut off in the Barvenkovo Pocket and destroyed, despite desperate breakout attempts. This mission sees my three T-34s and attached dismounted infantry platoon tasked to link up with units holding out in a village on the far side of a river.

According to our orders, the Nemetski aren't expecting us, but they're down there somewhere.

A defensive position marked on our map and built around a dangerous 5 cm A/T gun is quickly flanked and over-run, at the cost of my right-hand tank knocked out. I lead the other T-34 down into the wide, undulating valley floor, which is criss-crossed with waterbeds and marshy patches.

[Linked Image]

I pause from time to time to allow the infantrymen to keep up. They're under my command so they follow my orders.

[Linked Image]

At about this point, we're hit hard by an unseen foe! It's an A/T gun which my surviving companion deals with, but not before they've broken my right track. The destruction of the gun gives me the chance to order the crew out into the open, to repair the damage.

[Linked Image]

After a few scary minutes of heavy graft, the track is back in position and the advance continues, with enemy infantry on the left being engaged with HE and MG fire at long range. To the right, a pair of lend lease Matildas are knocked out, cause unseen. A panzer of some description foolishly breaks the skyline on the left and is burning after a couple of rounds, leaving my driver struggling to advance while avoiding getting bogged. The engagement has cost my force another disabled T-34.

[Linked Image]

Eventually, he makes it and we nervously creep up out of the gully. The lack of much depression to my 76mm gun is a bit of an issue in such situations.

[Linked Image]

Happily, the ground beyond is undulating and provides some decent cover as we press on.

[Linked Image]

This is the panzer I clobbered earlier - as you can see it's a T-4 (as we call it) with a short gun.

[Linked Image]

There follows an anxious drive over the last few hundred metres to the river, marshy-looking ground with very little cover. Fortunately, we seem to have destroyed or driven off the enemy. I take a chance on opening the hatch and peering around.

[Linked Image]

Over there to our right, on the far side of the river, is the village our forces are holding onto. My loader seems confident the shooting is over and joins me at the open hatch.

[Linked Image]

After leading my infantrymen over a rather rickety bridge, I cautiously sweep around the village and take up a position covering the way I came.

[Linked Image]

At least I've brought one T-34 and the survivors of an infantry platoon out of the pocket, and we've done some damage to the fascists on the way.

[Linked Image]

Most of our troops haven't been so lucky, like these Matildas...

...the crew of this antiquated field-piece...

...or indeed, of my own two lost tanks.

Not sure whether this is a stock campaign or modified/user made, but I've enjoyed it!

Man, you get around, lima! salute

The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...

Variety being the spice of simming life, Rick, I'm still above and below the wet stuff in my U-100 SH3 campaign...

It's the only way I can get out of the country at the moment without being arrested or quarantined or both!
