87 is a good run but I was never a big fan of his talk show.

Me neither. In fact, I could hardly stand the sound of his voice. Sometimes it was obvious that he hardly knew or understood why his guest was even on the show. He reminded me of Ed Sullivan a bit in that he had little to no talent himself and seldom even comprehended the real talent of his guests.

There was one show where he interviewed Jerry Seinfeld shortly after the latter had ended his show. He looked Seinfeld straight in the face and asked him to clarify whether he was canceled or decided to end the show. Seinfeld was incredulous that the man could be that unaware of the show's No 1 standing even when it was ending--to even ask a question as uninformed as that.

The whole interview is online, but here is the part I'm referring to. It's a hoot to watch.

Cheers

Yeah I remember hearing about that interview and it’s obvious King had no clue what he was talking about. In fact NBC practically begged Seinfeld to keep the show going and offered him a massive raise but he turned it down.

Not a fan of King but I never understood the King/Seinfeld thing.

Listen to what he says: "You gave it up right, they didn't cancel you, you canceled them"

It wasn't a question so much as a statement of fact, it sounded to me like King was giving Seinfeld an opportunity to expound on the situation. Instead Seinfeld takes it as a shot at him personally, "Do you know who I am?".

I guess I see it that way because I'm not a big fan of Jerry Seinfeld either, he comes across as a pompous jerk quite a lot to me.

That's classic Larry David, Seinfeld's writer. I wouldn't be surprised if that entire segment was scripted.
