When I played it I was on Win 10, but it's been a few years. The faq on that download page gives a couple possible fixes to try if you're running on Steam. I googled and found a few threads with various fixes to try. Here's one
Did you run vanilla Stalker before installing the mod? IIRC you want to run it and make at least one save so that the program creates all the files it needs.
Thanks DBond. I ran it once, but made no save. May be I did something wrong with the settings when I did the install. There are some choices like type of monitor, I chose 16-9 for instance. There were several chices during the setup. I won`t give up. I will uninstall it later on today and make a new run. I read some of the Reddit posts, but it might have been to late into the process. I will post the result later on. :-)

And for anyone intrigued by Autumn Aurora, this is a good video that shows the opening, from the rookie village through the first mission. You can see the new UI, inventory, graphics and more. AA2 borrows some stuff from CoP too, bringing SoC more up to date (which is relative at this point lol)

Found the SOC DVD on a shelf. (between Myst: exile and Flatout.) Found all the patches and installed. Installed Autumn Aurora 2.1. First start, crash. Forgot the error message, but I believe it was graphic engine related. Second try, sucess .
I`m glad I have an external DVD player. Hope I can solve the Steam problem, as I have to keep the DVD in the player. I have bad feeling about this mission though, as I feel the chances for a crash is greater than I like.

I still vividly recall my first time playing. Wolf gives you the mission to clean out the car park. As you climb the rise to the road, fighting off boars, then wondering what that thing is (anomaly), finding a friendly under the road, and then the first gun fight at the park. I died.
Finally made it past the railroad bridge to meet Fox. But the sun was setting and I climbed up on the roof of the house next door and spent the entire night firing wildly at shadows and peering in to the darkness. I stayed on that roof until day break

Any news at all on when Stalker 2 is supposed to be out?

I would expect the zone in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 to somewhat more closely resemble its real life counterpart as compared to the previous games, although the New Safe Confinement project and extensive salvaging obviously wouldn't have occurred.
And I don't know if they'll choose to depict the currently overgrown state of the real zone?
I'd say no doubt it will be done like that. Looking at the vids in the OP, the second one shows briefly the area around the Pripyat ferris wheel and in those two seconds it looks like everything's ovrergrown. A little later it shows some blind dogs moving across the screen right to left and it looks overgrown there too. Those vids may be renders, or concepts, so who knows really. But I can't imagine it being done any other way. I reckon this will be the most lush Stalker yet (if it ever comes out)

I have seen some of this youtubers videos visiting earlier sovjet states. Here he is searching for Chernobyl resttlers. He has done quite a few videos in this area so I just pick a random one. Just if you are interested.

I've watched a few of his videos, visiting the various areas that were affected by the disaster... they are really worth a watch. Some are quite touching, when you see the conditions that some of the 'remainers' are having to endure... also, how he is received on a repeat visit to repay their kindness. It makes you realise, what a massive impact the disaster had on the surrounding countries, with the ensuing large loss of life.
