This a huge, many years-in-the-making free player made mod that will be available tomorrow, it's set in nuclear winter ravaged Portland Oregon and features all kinds of new items, mechanics and even drivable vehicles.

I don't know if I can get past the ancient graphics, but it looks like its worth a try at any rate.

Impressive mod but I'm knee-deep into Fallout 76 now and like Crane mentioned, the graphics are so outdated now.

I don't get the whole "graphics too outdated now" excuse. A great game, is a great game. I still play the classics on my PC: half-life, X-wing, Tie Fighter, EAW, RB3d, etc. They're still fun games to play and bring back good memories. I love playing new games as well, but projects like these breathe new life into a series. Fallout NV is arguably the best fallout game in the series and this mod, FREE by the way, should be a great addition.

To each their own but for me it would be like watching a movie on a VHS tape on a 13 inch color tv instead of watching it on a bluray disc on an HD tv.

I'm not a graphics guy, but its hard to go back to a game that was already ugly and dated looking when it was released 10 years ago.

Still, I'll give this a shot.

The F4 based Fallout Miami also looks interesting, but I bet its still at least 2 years away.

Miami??? I don't think a lush tropical setting works for the post-apocalyptic mood and feel of the Fallout games.

Why not?

Fallout was never particularly dark and serious, it's not S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Horror of Hialeah.

Besides, there aren't too many other really iconic American cities that haven't been addressed already.

Thanks for the "heads up".

To me, modding is half the fun. The Fallout series made modding easy. Here's a possible excuse to play my mods again -- if they merge with this DLC.

The Miami version also looks good -- but too far off to get excited yet.

Steam still not working.

Anyhoo, while on the topic of Fallout, its seems Fallout 5 will be utilizing a further updated version of the Creation engine as used by Fallout 76, which was itself improved over the Fallout 4 basis.

Personally, I would have rather see them make use out of a fresh engine, like the upcoming Unreal 5, rather than one that can trace its lineage back to 1997.

Without a new engine, I have to wonder how competitive Bethesda's next Fallout will be in the face of fan made efforts?

I agree on the "fresh engine". I want the high end RPG games to look totally real -- like a movie (not there yet -- but approaching with some games).

I'm starting with a clean Fallout NV install (to assure compatibility with Fallout TF) and building in my homemade mods (that's working).

I have the Fallout NV Nexus version of the Fallout TF mod; however, it requires other Nexus mods to work. I assume the Steam version will "just work". So, I'll wait a couple days or more for a Steam Fallout TF install before messing with the Nexus version. I assume the Steam version is delayed because the Fallout TF team is having issues with those other required mods (like I might) -- I prefer to let them sort it out smile

Its not just a graphics issues, the creaky old engine also imposes a lot of mechanical limitations, just one of which is comparatively small map size.

Agree. I want maps to grow (along with the realism).

FWIW, I finished the Fallout NV basic game. Also, did some modding. Total 110 hours in-game, some restarts in that total. 68 hours for the playthrough. Also much off-clock self modding. Not much compared to some of you.

Mainly, self-modding kept my interest and used much of the in-game clock time. But, the game ended too soon with many locations and quests undone.

So, I'll start over and play differently -- and I'm installing a Nexus mod that allows play after the endgame.

FWIW: A picture of my real-life wife when she was younger -- always plays the heroine. Her entire outfit and pipboy textures are a self-mod. She sneaks a lot -- so a type of desert camo outfit. Her AR-15 is a scratch-buillt exact copy of an AR-15 I own (starting from scratch blender model, etc.). It has some of the internal mechanisms and cartridges -- even though they are not visible.
