All I can say is...ouch...or duhhh... Programmer who could lose hundreds of millions in bitcoin shares 'painful memory'"Stefan Thomas, the programmer who could lose $260 million worth of bitcoin because he can't remember his password, said there's "no chance" he'll ever recoup his lost fortune, calling it a "painful memory." "It's not like I barely don't remember it," Thomas told NBC's "Today" show. "It's there's no chance of remembering something that complicated from 10 years ago." Thomas lost the password for his IronKey hard drive, which contains the keys to a digital wallet with 7,002 bitcoin. The hard drive gives users 10 guesses to remember their password before the content is lost forever. Thomas has used eight of those 10 attempts and come up empty every time. The price of one bitcoin was $39,601 as of Thursday morning. " It's only Ones & Zeros

Look for me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Tic Toc...or anywhere you may frequent, besides SimHq, on the Global Scam Net. Aka, the internet. I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

Seems like enough potential incentive that someone somewhere could hack/crack that drive for a share of the "loot"

He just needs to wait (and live) long enough for the technology to develop that can crack the drive. Some state sponsored super hackers will have it long before then.

I confess I don't know much about cryptocurrency, but if $260m is "locked away" behind a password, what, exactly, has happened? Has it disappeared?

Some guy from Nigeria will soon gain access and offer to share it. Heck, 260 million would increase Nigeria's GDP by quite a significant percentage!

I might be old school but my pw would have been in a text document stashed in a folder and probably written down on a scrap of paper shoved in a box with a bunch of old school reports and such. I keep all mine on a flash drive that's hidden, I believe, very well. Only my son and I know its whereabouts, but it's somewhere so obvious (to us) that it won't be lost.
SALUTE TO ALL!

If it was 260 MILLION, well I would probably have it tattooed on someone who has no clue and pay them, not just to be tatted, but to report in semiannually to some shyster somewhere.
Just another example of a genius with ZERO common sense.
